Do not waste your time. I knew it would be low key marital dysfunction from the promos, but I didn't think it would be this bad. Characters you pretty much hate from the start.

Thank God Heels was on the same night.

That turns out to be one of the least offensive parts of the show. It goes down from there. Once the husband mansplaned his passive-aggressive wife's pronouns, you knew this show was fricked. And yet, it got worse.

I personally prefer murder and/or rape from my Sunday night HBO viewings.

A messy divorce is a little distasteful.

Yeah. It was not fun.

I mean...marriage shows rarely show a happy marriage, but this was a mess.

Going off of the Bergman 70s mini-series, this is intentional. I'll probably waste my time on the first episode, but even if it isn't total garbage, I doubt anyone is improving on Bergman.

I mean, it's called Scenes From a Marriage. What part of that title sounded like it would be good? If it were x-rated maybe it would have some value. But a man and wife arguing in the kitchen doesn't sound entertaining; I can do that at home.

From the promos it seemed like a couple that you'd be pulling for. Not my favorite genre but something I'd sit through with the wife. But after meeting them I'd rather that they split and avoid starting any other marriages.

It's 2021. No one should have to go HBO for their porn.

I’m going to go 100% politard here but the last nudity I remember was the Nevers. I don’t watch HBO to see boobs. I watch for superior acting and directing than I’m going to get on Netflix or TV.

Hilariously, it was an interracial relationship. I don’t have a problem whatsoever, but the idea of an interracial relationship in Victorian England is a tad ridiculous.

Unless you name the character Tad Ridiculous, then you're good to go.

People of different races have been getting together since forever. Odd that the time travel/spaceship/alien plotlines didn't throw you but the interracial relationship thing did.

you know i'm on the same page as you with wokism. i almost put "on top of it being a woman from the future implanted in a victorian woman committing suicide."

ETA: I know your background. Again, I’m 100% all great with IR. I just laugh at its overrepresentation some times.

It's not overrepresented. It's one relationship.

you don't feel that in media, commercials and hollywood, the amount of interracial representation is quite a few degrees higher than the real world? nonetheless for a time where it would have been extremely rare?

if i'm overstepping my bounds regarding you personally, i apologize. i definitely try not to be a complete poliboard "everything ever is woke and turns to shite" type of poster on MTV board. usually i can separate, ignore, or roll my eyes at most things i find silly.

One out of six marriages are interracial marriages. Are they represented at a higher rate than that?

As for the Victorian era, I wouldn't say it was extremely rare either. Interracial marriages were never illegal in Britain. In fact, Britain encouraged them. The British Empire being as vast as it was, interracial relationships, particularly for soldiers, sailors, and merchants, were encouraged as a way to solidy ties with colonies and trading partners. In places like South America, the Carribean, the Africa coast, India, and New Zealand, it was pretty common. So no, it wasn't extremely rare in that particular period of time.

Decided to stick with this and I hate myself for it

Chastains character is such a bitch. So eager to abandon her child and marriage .

If I was Johnathon, I wouldn’t have helped her pack her shite at all.
