HUGE Seinfeld fan but season 9 was pretty awful. However, one beacon of light was episode 8, "The Betrayal", which was when they took the trip to India and the episode was shown in reverse order. Pretty brilliant, IMO. So many LOL moments.

Something I only recently learned about that episode is that it’s inspired by a play called “Betrayal” by Harold Pinter. The play is also in reverse chronological order.

That's pretty awesome.

Typically, I don't care about upvote/downvote, but I gotta know from the downvoter if it was because they thought the season was good or the episode was bad or if they are just a serial downvoter. LOL, then again, doubt they'd be brave enough to reply.

I have the opposite opinion. I dont really care for that episode at all. That season still has good episodes and really looking back was as good as any on their own merits. The Strike (Festivus) , Reverse Peephole, The Voice, Merv Griffin, and one of the best of the series, The Serenity Now.
Puerto Rican day is probably the best pre-finale episode of a series.

you got downvoted, rightfully so, because it's not even possible to be a "HUGE seinfeld fan" and call season 9 awful.
"I like dexter but seasons 1-4 suck"
"breaking bad is cool but I hate ozymondius"
"the simpsons is hilarious except for the first 10 seasons"
"game of thrones is good but nothing can top season 8"
Like...it's not even comprehensible. Once seinfeld got its footing under us in season ~3 it was elite all the way to the very end, you could argue there isn't even a single down episode once it really hit its stride. And season 9! My word every episode is practically an all timer.

Easily my favorite episode because I was in 7th grade during the final season and that was the first season I ever watched. Season 9 is the GOAT for me

I didn't downvote you, but that episode is my least favorite of them all. I just didn't care for the reverse timeline.

I think Season 9 is better than its reputation. Granted, the characters had devolved into caricatures of themselves and they were leaning way too hard into Kramer's physical comedy, but there are still some great episodes in there. The Strike (festivus), The Serenity Now, and The Bookstore are three iconic or memorial episodes from that season.
However, you can tell that Larry David had left the show after season 7, since the disparate subplots didn't dovetail together at the end of each episode as well as they did in the middle seasons.

I didn't DV your post, but season 9 has some of my favorite episodes in the series. The Butter Shave, The Merv Griffin Show, The Dealership, etc. I do think that season had gotten into the absurd with its storylines, but also had some of its funniest moments.
The Betrayal was unique, but overall I thought it was just an okay episode.

The Dealership

having David Puddy go from grease monkey auto mechanic to car salesman is an all time classic bit-character transition.
