Shawshank or The Green Mile?

Which is your preferred viewing experience?
It’s a simple question, but for me it’s a hard answer as I believe both are prison masterpieces.
I think the majority would pick Shawshank, and so would I, but don’t sleep on Green Mile. They both have villain combos that are top notch in Warden/Captain Hadley and Percy/Wild Bill.
Frank Darabonte with a killer back to back punch. The main cast is great, but almost overshadowed by amazing supporting performances.

Both are good. Can’t decide on one. So I won’t do it.!

1: Shawshank
1a: Green Mile
It amazes me still that these two stories came from the mind of Stephen King. He has written some great books, but he’s produced a lot of drivel as well. These two, inspired, and were perfect translations to the big screen.

Shawshank is great and probably the better movie, but for rewatchability, I might actually give the nod to Green Mile.
I like the magical element in the Green Mile, and I like the lead character’s introspective and wise nature. His guilt for having killed “God’s miracle” (John Coffey), was very poignant as he felt his long life was his punishment. That’s an interesting perspective.
It was also a really great ensemble cast. Especially Sam Rockwell as Wild Bill, David Morse as Brutus, and Michael Clarke Duncan as John Coffey.
Not to take anything away from Shawshank which was a masterpiece, but I really think I like watching The Green Mile more now on re-watch status.

The Green Mile is good. Shawshank is a classic.

The fact you added that slapstick-ish gif from Green Mile makes it clear that Shawshank is the better movie.

Shawshank movie, Green Mile book. My Dad was big into Stephen King, and so he bought the Green Mile books each month as they came out when I was a kid. Probably the first Stephen King books I ever read, because they were so digestible in 100-page increments for a kid. Great story that translated OK to film but nothing like the books, which is kind of the opposite of the Shawshank story.

Shawshank by an extremely long way

Shawshank. It's pretty close, but I give the nod to the one without supernatural stuff
