Just got out. Really enjoyed it, I recommend it.

I just read it’s the highest score for a Horror in 35 years.

The musical scenes were really great. That one and the one led by Sammie's performance were easily the best parts of the film.

Look at these exits: Solid ‘A’ CinemaScore, 5 stars PostTrak, 92% positive and a massive 84% definite recommend. Men and women over 25 respectively gave the 2-hour and 17-minute running film 93% positive. High scores among diverse groups with Black moviegoers turning out at a huge 49% giving the pic 95%, Caucasians at 27% grading it 91%, Hispanic and Latino at 14% (90%) and Asian at 6% an 86% grade. The under 18 crowd who made it into Sinners gave the movie an A+.
Imax, PLF and select 70MM are pulling in 47% of the weekend gross for Sinners with strong plays in the East, South and West. Currently, AMC Lincoln Square in NYC is the top grossing multiplex with $114K.
$90M-plus before P&A, it can be argued that’s a lot for a period horror movie. Some studios wouldn’t make this movie at this level. There was a rival offer to make Sinners at $90M. Know this is what it takes to be in business with auteurs who have delivered recent blockbusters on their resume. And with the departure of Christopher Nolan to Universal and Clint Eastwood approaching retirement, the studio of Stanley Kubrick, George Lucas (they released THX 1138) and Elia Kazan was in need of restocking. At $90M+ production for an auteur filmmaker who has a track record at the box office isn’t unheard of. Nolan’s Dunkirk cost $100M, and Interstellar was $165M. I’m told that Sinners’ breakeven lies around $170M global box office, and that’s because of the lucrative downstream from PVOD, Max, followed by subsequent windows on Prime and Netflix. Coogler did receive a rare first dollar gross (which means he begins to make a small percentage back immediately out of the film rental). Directors like Nolan and Tarantino receive first dollar gross (typically the profit payout for filmmakers and talent lies around breakeven). Others studios were offering first dollar gross for the project. I understand Coogler pushed his definition back to pay for any budget overages. The movie was shot with Louisiana tax credits.

I’m having a hard time deciding which of the two big musical parts were my favorite. They were both incredibly well shot.

I hope this movie makes money.

International numbers are rough

Boosted by stellar reviews and Coogler and Jordan’s popularity, “Sinners” collected a solid $45.6 million from 3,308 North American theaters. Those ticket sales mark the biggest debut for an original film since Jordan Peele’s “Us” opened to $71 million in 2019. But Warner Bros. spent a staggering $90 million to produce “Sinners” (before factoring in global marketing expenses), so profitability remains a question mark.
At the international box office, “Sinners” added another $15.4 million for a global tally of $61 million.

Movie was great. We gotta support original stuff like this especially the ones being shot on film.

This is why I really hope it turns a profit
Movies like this have to exist.

I wish they would've expounded on Remmick's backstory a bit. How did an Irish vampire come to end up in rural Mississippi, being chased by Native American vampire hunters? He just showed up on that couple's doorstep. Did he follow the brothers down from Chicago? He mentioned that he was drawn to Sammie's music, but that was pretty much all we got.

I agree, more backstory on him would have been great.

I think Sammy reminded him of once being alive and it played into the movies overall theme of the power of music.

Just got out. It was packed for the early IMAX showing today. Coogler/Jordan/Göransson should never stop making movies together. Excellent direction, acting, and score all come together perfectly. I only wish I hadn’t seen the trailer about 20 times watching other movies because it gave too much away. Still wasn’t the movie I predicted though.

We just got out. I really liked it.
When I made my seat reservations yesterday afternoon the entire theater was open save 2 seats. When we got there today there was hardly a seat open. Looks like word of mouth might be working.
A couple brought along their two boys, aged 8-12. They were in for quite a shock.
ETA: The couple wasn't with us. We saw them walking in and sitting down.

The movie was so gorgeous in IMAX. Huge theater that was probably 75% full on Easter afternoon.
The first musical scene led by Sammy is something Ill never forget and will watch over and over once its released digitally.
