The joke wasn’t that good, but you’re right, Minnie Driver was so charismatic in that movie!
Her role was a critical piece of the plot. She had to be exceptional to be able to believably pull Will out of his defensive shell. She nailed it.
I don’t know about Affleck getting “run over”. It was actually necessary that she outshine Will’s friends in that moment, IMO, or else she would have been just another “one-night-stand bimbo” for Will.

Just the fact that she went to Harvard, was rich, from overseas etc already put her in a different class than bimbos like Angela who throws her nasty little hoochie woochie at them all the time. Plus, she doesn’t have skin problems
