But Krasinski absolutely refused to shoot it and got them to abandon the idea

quote:

The new character had the hots for Krasinski’s Jim, but “The Office” showrunner Greg Daniels wanted to take things a bit further by having Jim and Cathy make out. To put it mildly, Krasinski refused.

quote:

“That’s the only time I remember putting my foot down,” Krasinski writes in the new oral history book “Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office” (via Uproxx). “I remember saying things that I never thought I’d say before, like, ‘I’m not going to shoot it.’”

Krasinski continues, “My feeling is there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there’s a moment where if you push them too far, they’ll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they’ll never come back.”

They should've had Jim come back from Philly with the clap.

I'm glad that didn't happen, because we didn't really see much of anything like that from Jim. As stupid as the storyline was later on in the show with Pam and the mic guy, at least she was shown on the show to cheat before (on Roy).

Good. That would've sullied his character. That's cliche writing that goes against everything that had been established with Jim, and Krasinski was absolutely correct in making this stance.

Exactly. This would have been completely out of character for him. It's a cheap trick that is too often used by lazy writers.

No one cared about the office at that point so probably would have done something to be relevant again.

They ruined Mad About You by having Jamie cheat on Paul. Not that she was a beloved character to begin with, but after that there was no reason for Paul to stay with her.

On the flip side, Friends had Ross cheat on Racheal and pretty much made it a 2 season long story arch and the end result was on of the most iconic TV couple of all time (regardless if you like Friends or not, this is true so everyone can spare me their Friends hot takes)

Ross might’ve invented gaslighting when you think about it

Besides them being on a break, they weren't married. That is a huge difference.

Not really in the context of a sitcom where the entire plot driver of the show is that relationship

Krasinski's married to Emily Blunt, so I think he's doing just fine.

Props to him for standing up for his character and Pam's too.
