Assuming $10k. Boss man said add 20%. So was $12k enough for a pool in 1989?

Well, bonus is generally a month's salary. Clark was a VP of R&D at a multinational company. In 1989,yeah, I'd say you were pretty close.

You could get a standard poool in the 80s for ten to fiteen thou

I would guess closer to 20K. He was going to fly everybody in as well as add the pool.

That's what I've always gotten at just about every place I've worked give or take. I thought it was typical...

The bigger question is what did Kevin McAlester's dad do, to be able to fly his whole family all over the world.

He really needed the bonus to just cover the check he wrote for the deposit.
The remainder of the pool could have been made in payments.
He was going to use the rest to fly everyone back to dedicate it...and maybe get the Mary the store clerk back in her red bikini

One thing for sure he racked up some frequent flyer miles.

No shite, he paid for the whole family twice to take week long vacations. The dude must have been an OT baller.

They did have a big arse house in a suburban Chicago neighborhood. I'm guessing he was making 500K back in 1990

Well no doubt Kevin's dad was very well off, but I think they said it was his brother that was flying everybody into Paris, because he lived there, the same one that had the town house they were renovating in downtown manhattan in HA2, so what did that bastard do for a living? I guess Uncle Frank was the black sheep of the family

But he DID complain about the cost of the pizza in HA ("$120 for pizza?")
And in HA2 at the end ("KEVINNNN, you spent $967 on room serviiiice!")

I wasn't VP of anything until 1994. It wasn't until my cereal varnish patent got big that I got my VP title. I made $85k in 1998 and my bonus was only about $5k which was enough to cover the deposit. I only said I'd fly everyone down because what people don't realize is that my family can all drive to my house except for Eddie and his family. Both my parents and Ellen's live close enough to drive (which is why they all showed up at the same time 2 weeks before Christmas). There is no way in hell I'd fly Aunt Bethany back for a pool because the thought of her in a swimsuit is nauseating.
Now I am retired and making a nice check from Old Navy which is helping to pay off the electricity bills each December.

Rich people don't get that way by splurging on unnecessary shite. He was just watching his money and trying to keep some for himself.

His brother was paying for the flights for letting his kids stay in the states with them.

My brother always hated Father of the Bride for the fact that all Steve Martin did was bitch about money for his only daughter's wedding, yet he owned his own shoe company and drove an Aston Martin(I think that's what my brother said the type of car was).
