Spoilers - Concerning Ramsey Bolton’s “ treatment “ of Theon Greyjoy...

Was the extreme torture and castration purely for sadistic purposes? Was it solely to establish the depths of Ramsey’s depravity ? Or was there an underlying enmity that I missed in the plot line?

Ramsay being Ramsay.
I will say this though...Theon got off easy on the show. ALL of his fingers and toes are flayed in the books and most of his teeth are loosened so it's incredibly painful just to eat. He also has to cover himself in dog shite.

IMO it was just to show what kind of person Ramsay is and what he is capable of.
I hated that subplot the first time I watched it, but it's not as bad upon rewatch. Ramsay is a sadistic frick though. And Theon pretty much deserved it anyway.

roose was pissed that ramsay did that, he was planning on trading theon back to balon in exchange for moat cailin. it wasnt until ramsay showed roose how under control theon was that roose allowed ramsay to take theon there and re-capture the castle (and kill the iron islanders there)

With Ned Stark gone, the Boltons could resume their old ways. Their sigil is the flayed man. Their words are "Our Blades are Sharp." That wasn't bullshite to them.
But, kind of like having a dangerous wild animal as a pet, eventually it will be either you or it. Good riddance to them.

God damn. Theon REALLY should have got the hell out of dodge when he had the chance.

I thought it was hilarious when he was giving the rah rah speech and the men had enough and knocked him out

You have to know your name.
Reek, it rhymes with freak.

Still got it easy.
Ramsay set the dogs on Sansa* in the books.
And then did other things to her unmentioned that made her plead to just set the dogs on her again.

Sansa is in the Vale in the books.

Ramsey was a true sadist. He hunts his victims with his dogs when he chooses to finally kill them. (Show has this)
Theon got the "special"attention because of his arrogance and nobility. Ramsey wanted to bring him down to size.

I hate Ramsey Bolton. I can't wait for Stannis the Mannis to skull frick him in the next book. If Winds of Winter ever gets finished that is.
