We watched this yesterday - somewhat overly long, but, for the most part, a decent flick.

I'm old (80 yo), and have hearing problems, so I miss some of the dialogue (my 79 yo wife [no pics] is no help).

Can someone explain the significance of the gold "Stillwater" necklace that Matt Damon's character bought for his daughter. Did this necklace somehow lead Baker to believe his daughter was involved in the murder?

TIA

Yes. I can’t remember the specifics anymore, but I do remember the necklace being the tip-off.

I actually didn’t hate it, and I kind of thought I would going into it.

Also, i thought the little kid actor was one of the better kid actors I’ve seen in a while

I hope this isn’t a troll and we really do have a spry 80 year old baw posting from the nursing home.

God bless this home you’ve created for misfits, Chicken.

Yes, I am really 80, and appreciate the TLC Chicken's staff affords me in this luxury rest home in Holly Beach.

yeah, the dude he captured said she paid him with it... he kind of let it go, because DNA did make him for the killer... He brought it up to his daughter later, after she was cleared, and she broke down and came clean with it... she paid him with the necklace to "get her out" of their apt, but the dude mistook it for "take her out" and killed her..

I thought it was a decent movie... not must see, but a decent watch..

I was unable to get an answer from this board so I went to google and found this:

SPOILER
!

quote:

Bill brought the “Stillwater” necklace in the conversation. Allison realized that Bill knew her secret and thus confessed that she handed the chain to Akim to “make Lina go out” of her apartment. Akim misunderstood Allison because of her poor knowledge of French Language and killed Lina.

Lina had been cheating on Allison. It became a reason for the constant brawl between the lovers. But Lina was not ready to leave the apartment, and thus in anger, Allison took drastic measures. Still, she didn’t intend on killing her. There is a thin line between what’s right and what’s wrong. Sometimes, it’s so transparent that one fails to understand when or where they crossed it. Was Allison a monster? No, but she never accepted the truth, not until Bill brought up the “Stillwater” necklace, making her a kind of grey. In a brutal life, I guess having a greyish persona in a quickly dying world is quite acceptable.

I was cracking up at my desk when I read the part about his 79 year old wife. Judging by his sky high T levels, I bet OP’s wife is a 10/10 senior citizen.

I'm guessing some people went into this thinking it's about a real baw who makes a heroic attempt to free his daughter, but he turns out to be a loser who makes really bad decisions. And even worse, this shitty character was played by Matt Damon!

Corso's post really makes the point: modern Hollywood will not do a realistic, positive archetype.

Yes. The criminal he kidnapped had the Stillwater chain he bought his daughter. She gave it to him as a down payment to kill her girlfriend.

It double down how he was a frick up. He ruined a meaningful relationship to get that guy. In the end he had his daughter but he would have been happier with her in prison and him in Mairselle.

Just watched last night. Was looking for a thread on it.

Not a horrible movie but not great.
