Jeff says repeatedly that they used to look for a specific mix (the smart one, the older one, the funny one, the gay one, etc) and that now he just goes by their stories and their interview with him. He says he wants interesting people and it's mostly based on his talks with them.

I still don't get it. Back in the day, half the Survivors were either really smart, really strong or really good-looking. Now each season it is like they held a casting call at the Dollar General two miles from my house and threw an uneven proportionate of LGBTQ on top.

My younger son has asked to watch survivor.

I haven’t watched a ton outside of maybe the first handful of seasons back in college.

You guys have any seasons relatively recent that were exciting. Trying to avoid ones that have an over emphasis on sexual orientation/identity and are just more purely the game.

We watched it last night and my daughter said that the two winning tribes have basically the same person on them. The nerdy girl/guy with glasses. The loser got stuck with the Asian nerd, Hairdresser is playing the Carolyn/Stupid bartender from last season role. It is getting fairly predictable as how they are choosing these people and it sucks. The musician reminds me of the try hard from last year, the ivy league nerd, and traded the short fat gay guy for the tall, thin gay guy. Just not anyone that wouldn't die if their car ran out of gas except for 3 maybe 4 people. Also, Jeff loves him some Mom's and tatoos.

However, the new games this year are crazy. They may have made a conscious decision to take it out of the water, but the gecko and the puzzle arch from last night were brutal.

Does it have to be recent? I can suggest a handful of seasons but they are from 10 seasons ago. Anything in the 20's and 30's are probably pretty good.

What don’t you get. They will jeopardize their own show in order to fill the much needed requirement.

Ratings up - and on longer episodes

These shows were good back in the day because of casting. Now they are either what I posted above or some person looking to become an influencer and famous.
That might be true of other "reality" shows, but I think the opposite is true for Survivor. It used to always be models/influencers that were already half a degree from some kind of fame anyway. I much prefer the current casting on Survivor (although I do miss some of the bikinis).

I'm willing to be this was quite prevalent back in the day too.

Meh. Who knows what they don't show. On the Rob Cesternino podcast, Jalinsky claimed it was Q who first threw the idea out there of quitting.

Jeff sort of addressed this on this week’s podcast. He said that because of COVID, he wanted a friendlier show that families could watch so he wasn’t mean to the quitters, etc but he realized they went too far. The contestants now get less food and tools than the old school contestants. The game’s shorter but 4 days without food or decent shelter are still 4 tough days.

Jeff’s casting notes for Jess were nothing like how she was on the island. In the old Survivor model, she would have been in a bigger tribe and might have had time to settle in and be herself.

Nah really any of them are fine. Would probably wonder about the standard definition ones though

I have no problem at all with the current casting. Every season still seems to be good.

Dude just gave up on everything he did lmao

then said at tribal "i never give up".

jess was basically worthless and had no game at all.

if not for jess, the tatted redhead would be gone. did they forget already that she tried to go after the 2 stronger players?

"i'm not mad that we lost, i'm mad at myself for getting so emotional"... losing is the best reason for being emotional.

i made fire,

dude damned near talked himself out of the game at tribal.

"stop making the block hot" might be one of my favorite survivor quotes.

that sad little fake idol.

Honestly there is a ranking of seasons on a website but I really enjoyed David vs Goliath season 37 and Cagayan Season 28.

Don't watch season 40 until you are ready to be spoiled for 20 seasons of winners. It's called winners at war and as the title suggests, it's all the past winners from season 20 + So all of those seasons will be spoiled if you watch that.

I'm sure you don't you white liberal bum. You're are the small % of people who ruined reality tv with this terrible diverse casting.

Let's say you hate Gen Y or Gen Z. It should still be fun/funny to watch them suffer from the aspects of what you hate about them.

Also, Jeff is insistent that new-era casts are getting way less food than back in the day.
