No, Political undertones, Simple Plot to follow.
Child actor, acts like a child and the writing reflects that.

Fritz and Ernest are two, young strapping brothers on the edge of adulthood, brewing with testosterone clashing over the affection of the young, fair, maiden, "bertie"

So far a enjoyable, film.

I watched this about a hundred times as a kid. I eventually made my family watch it when my kids were little, they loved it also.

I saw it at the Old Robert E. Lee around 1970-1 52 times that summer. This is back when it opened at 10am.

The movie line up was the Blue Max, Patton, Love story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang etc.

I had to spend the day there, so watched 3 movies a day. .

Got so bored I watched Love Story one day.

I cannot watch Swiss Family Robinson as I have seen it to many times. I have not watched it since 1971,

Who doesn't love coconut hand grenades? The battle versus the pirates is great cinema.

It still gets a content warning from the mouse. Only thing I can figure is they were stereotyping pirates.

The pirate lobby is strong.

Can’t wait to have kids to see if it holds up. In my head, as a kid, it should’ve won every Oscar for 5 years straight. Loved that damn movie.

Man we watched this one probably 100 times as kids. It was a VHS that had been taped from cable and part of the beginning was missing. I don't think I ever saw the beginning. I need to go rewatch it, glad to see it holds up.

I vividly remember the scene where the pirates were climbing the hill and they dropped the logs on them.

That's why. It's because the pirates are portrayed as asian, and some of the actors had makeup to make them look more asian or something like that. I read about it not too long ago.

I loved this movie as a kid and watched it about 6 months or so ago with my five year old and he loved it. We actually watched it this past Thursday again. It's such a great movie. A little unbelievable with how much they salvaged from the ship.

One of my favorites from childhood. The treehouse was insane. It’s really every young boys dream scenario where you are living in a treehouse surrounded by exotic animals getting to fend off pirates.

There's a 1940 film version of the novel that was never in any TV syndication packages or appeared on any cable channel. Walt Disney purchased and vaulted the film before the release of his 1960 epic, making his updated movie the defacto version. It has an all star cast with Thomas "Uncle Billy" Mitchell, Freddie Bartholomew, and western star Tim Holt. But man, is it dark. A dad with a dim view of his sons, a wife that blames her husband for their misfortune... not the cheery family from the novel or the Disney film.

I'm a big fan of the novel, but never got to see this 1940 film until it was on Disney+.

I will ride an ostrich in my lifetime at least once before I die. All because of watching this movie as a kid 500 times.

Fritz was played by James McArthur (Dan-O) from the original Hawaii 5-0. Helen Hayes was his mother.

I hate the little brother! He's so annoying!
