You don't need to be a hipster to appreciate Lena Dunham and 'Girls'. It's among my favorite shows on TV and certainly in my hbo top 10, and my wardrobe is like 73% Brooks Brothers.
Girls is awful. There is literally nothing redeemable about that show or the characters in it. It's literally among the worst scripted shows on television right now. True Blood is awful as well.
I find HBO to be very polarizing. Either their shows are amazing or terrible. Little to no in-between.

To each their own. I love it.
Entertainment is subjective. I don't expect everyone to like it.

Also, if you hate it so much, why are you watching it?

I watched a few episodes after hearing rave reviews. After the first one, I thought that there was no way they can all be this bad. Clearly it must get better. I was wrong. Those same people were obsessed with True Blood, so I learned very quickly that their tastes in television shows simply were not compatible with my own.

Ok so you're judging a series based on 2 episodes?
Posted on 5/27/15 at 1:08 pm to TotesMcGotes
Sadly, 5. 3 from the first season and 2 from the second. I got dragged into the latter 2.

Ok so you're judging a series based on 5 episodes that weren't even in order?

The first 3 were. If you can't tell that a tv series isn't for you after 3 episodes, then I think that there is something wrong with you.

Clearly you haven't seen Parks & Rec.

I watched the first half of season 1 and hated it. HATED it. I couldn't believe how I could find everyone involved with that show funny in literally every other context (except Amy Pohler in "Baby Momma", that movie is terrible), yet the show could be so bad.
I followed peoples' advice and watched a few episodes from later seasons and it was much better. I still need to go back and rewatch much of the series and it's on my watchlist for whenever I bring back my Netflix account.

you just hate girls due to politics. Its ok to hate it b.c of that but be honest about it.
eta: I cant believe leftovers made the list, that show was horrible.

No, I actually don't mind that so much. Having lena's ugly naked body on screen constantly while the hot chick stays fully clothed definitely gets frustrating, though. In my opinion, "Broad City" is a very similar show that tackles the same issues of showing the urban lives of young adult women while simultaneously making fun of their poor decision making and attitudes, but "Broad City" is actually funny. Girls is just...bad. It's hard to develop any sympathy for the characters as they're all terrible people who make terrible decisions and don't make up for it by being hilarious (think "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia").
It's just not my cup of tea.

FIFY.

I'm surprised they have Last Week so high and Real Time completely absent.
The list kinda sucks minus the top few being correct.....

True, I'm a fan of girls because of that one Salon douche who says I should be.
I like it because I think it's often funny, and an interesting commentary on my generation. I also like a number of the characters, despite the fact that they don't often do likable things (which was different this past season, to an extent).

I'm a long time Real Time viewer/supporter and LWT is already running circles around it.

I'm convinced girls is the worst show on tv ane everyone hates it but is afraid to say it.

Look, I'm not saying that, but I'm automatically skeptical of something when the general media discourse seems to be about how brilliant something is.
I also feel like Judd Apatow is trolling everyone with Lena's nakedness. That recent self-righteous response to a reporter asking about the nudity made me want to punch him in his face. How hypocritical are you when you shove something in someone's face and then act surprised when they respond.
Maybe it's also because I'm a little older, but I also don't understand the commentary on your generation points. If I were a part of your generation, I would be upset at the portrayals in the show.
