Hard to believe it's been a decade and a half since this movie came out. It was the second ever film to make more than $500 million at the domestic box office and was the first comic book film to be "taken seriously" by the Hollywood establishment. It was nominated for 8 Academy Awards and won two of them (including a posthumous one for Heath Ledger in the category of Best Supporting Actor).
It remains the highest rated comic book movie on IMDB.

I was working for a movie theater at the time
During my few years there I never saw a movie that would routinely fill theaters months after its release like Dark Knight - meaning it was an incredibly rewatchable theater experience

Greatest moviegoing experience of my lifetime. Caught the midnight showing at AMC Elmwood. All 20 theater rooms were showing it at staggered times throughout the night. Parking lot was a madhouse trying to leave at 3am.
Summer of 2008 man. I was 18 years old, had just graduated high school and was getting ready to move to Baton Rouge for my freshman year at LSU. Miss those days.

Great movie experience. One of the few movies I saw multiple times in theater. So many good moments, but like anything great it will get picked at by zealots despite how enjoyable it was.
Nolan understood the Batman and Joker relationship very well.

Same. The hype was off the charts, and my god, did it deliver.

Yeah would have loved to seen how #3 would have gone had Ledger not passed

Top 5 favorite movie for me, and quite possibly my all time favorite. I still remember my first time seeing it.
If you replace Batman and Joker with an actual detective and a crazy killer with scars, then this movie would've swept the Oscars. That is was a "comic book movie" kept it from winning what it deserved, because it carries a stigma with that label.

So much so that you stutter. It's ok. Freaky Friday will always be available for you to watch.

Back when midnight showings and opening day was a true experience.
We were at the AMC in Baton Rouge and people were running to the theaters once the doors opened.
We got seats in the IMAX theater and a Joker and Batman fought in the front before the showing

The hype that surrounded The Dark Knight was something you don't see often with a movie.

Worst part of the movie was casting Droopy as the main love interest.

We saw the midnight premiere showing at AMC O'Neil. They had it playing in every theater at midnight. Once that entire building emptied all at once, it took us the better part of an hour to get out of the parking lot.
