Looks like a suicide to me and that's what I've always heard. What do you think?

quote:

An urban legend claims that, in the 1939 film, a Munchkin can be seen committing suicide (hanging by the neck from a prop tree and swinging back and forth) far away (left) in the background, while the Tin Man, Dorothy, and the Scarecrow are singing "We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!" and skipping down the Yellow brick road into the distance; however it can be seen to be a buzzard moving its head in a swinging way once, then spreading and flapping its wings, not a Munchkin. You really think they'd let that pass in the movie? You don't just overlook something like that.

That's what I was thinking. It's my first time to ever see it. I looked it up tonight because someone was talking about it at work today saying it was an on set suicide. It does look like that but people on the movie set would have stopped a person from hanging themselves I would think.

I know it looks just like a suicide but how could they let someone hang themselves like that. It had to be some kind of mistake in the film.

We used to watch it before dance class and spot the hanging guy. We were twisted little kids

we also would look for the "ghost" in three men and a baby

Disclaimer: No munchkins were injured in the making of this movie. Dorothy
(<---) would not have stood for that.

P.S. I think it's a bird too. Or maybe a prop guy/stage hand crouching down who got in the shot.
