brandon lee's role in the crow seems strangely close to how heath ledger was in the dark knight.....

i'd be willing to say that brandon lee in the crow's character was more like heath ledger in the dark knight than the original joker was

Yeah I can see the resemblance. Great movie by the way.

Not at all IMO.

The Crow was indestructible. Joker was not.

Crow was just out for revenge, and killing bad guys that had something to do with Shelly's murder. Joker just created havoc for fun.

Crow was really a good guy, and cared about Sarah a lot. Joker didn't care about anyone or anything.

Etc. Etc.

Aside from them having long hair (which isn't the same color), wearing some makeup, and leaving a mark (burning crow figure versus Joker playing cards) I really don't see many similarities at all.

Yeah, exactly. If anything, I think I could make the argument that the inspiration for the Crow was Batman.

I kinda thought that was a given.

I think what he was trying to say was that the new Joker's "persona" was inspired by the crow, not his actual abilities.

Right, and I couldn't disagree more with that.

Joker in TDK operated within the single vein of creating havoc and chaos ("Some men just like to see the world burn..."). He killed whomever he wanted and had fun with it. His only motivation was chaos, and he was batshit crazy.

Crow's sole mission was to avenge his and Shelly's death. He killed the bad guys responsible and had genuine caring feelings and emotion, not only for Sarah, but also her mother (he cured her of drugs and got her on the right path of motherhood), and arguably Albrecht (Ernie Hudson).

Their motivations were nothing alike, and thus neither were their actions or personas. And I never said that the Joker had invincible abilities.

Joker vs The Crow Trailer

A trailer that combines the movies and focuses on both characters. I think the wardrobe of the Joker (hair & makeup specifically) was inspired by The Crow more than Ledger's actual performance. You can see there are some similarities in the way the actors portrayed their characters. But if Ledger based his Joker off of The Crow, then it was very loosely based, IMO...

Edit: I think the OP is saying that Ledger based his Joker's movements and voice (for example, the way they laugh is very similar) off of The Crow.

This has always been the Joker's MO in the comics. I know some people only knew the Jack Nicholas 'Joker', but the Ledger's Joker is a much closer interpretation to the comics.

Exactly.

The Joker is a force of nature type character.

Tied to nothing and noone.

This is why I enjoyed Ledgers version so much more than Nicholson's.

We got a view of Nicholson's pre-Joker life in Batman but Ledger just showed up in full form. There was no reasoning with him and he wanted nothing but chaos.

Crow's look inspired Ledger? Maybe. But not the persona at all.

Other than hair/make-up, I think the batman/crow comparison makes alot more sense.

We need some clarification here - are we talking his character as a whole or merely the physical appearance of each character?

If we're strictly talking physical appearance (facial makeup, hair, etc.) then yeah I could see a valid argument that it was a straight ripoff from The Crow. Otherwise, this is stupid.

This. They look almost the same but the crow was somber, good spirited and almost gentle. The Joker was loud, evil, and wreckless.
