Watched it last night on AXS tv for the first time in quite a while. Great film with many memorable lines. It has some cheesy dialogue with very odd split-screen action scenes, but Burt in his prime was golden. They don't make movies like that anymore...

Way better than the remake/reboot.

The film has some serious undertones about abuse of power, but it was trying to stay light and straddle the comedy line.
Plus, you had a bunch of jocks pressed into duty as actors.

That was kind of in-style at that time - it made sense, we spent all this money on stunts and action scenes, let's show more of them.

Agreed.

What the hell are you talking about?! They literally made a movie with the SAME TITLE with Adam Sandler several years ago!!

Way better than the remake/reboot.
A southern swampy Georgia/Florida prison much better than a dry desert "Texas" prison.
Even the unis were better:

My uncle/my dad's youngest brother (only 5 years older than I) somehow got a jersey like that as a promotional item back in 1974. God, I'd love to have that now...

One of my favorites. The first few minutes of the film, which detail how he landed in prison, wouldn't be permitted by PC culture today. The Sandler remake didn't have all of that.

‘ Oh I ain't saying you did or you didn't. All I'm saying is that you could have robbed banks, sold dope or stole your grandmother's pension checks and none of us would have minded. But shaving points off of a football game, man that's un-American.’

James Hampton (Caretaker) really delivered an outstanding performance in this film. Kudos to other cats like Eddie Albert, Ed Lauter, and Michael Conrad. As easy as it would have been to just look good acting next to the jocks, none of these guys phoned it in.

You didn’t like Nelly doing a running back montage to his own music?

Burt's suit in the opening scene wouldn't make the movie today, much less a movie poster.

They don't make suits like that anymore!
