The Neighbors (ABC 2012-2014; Streaming on Hulu)

Mrs. Vox discovered a hidden gem on Hulu. Before introducing the world to Jack and Rebecca Pearson's love story on This Is Us, Dan Fogleman had a comedy series on ABC about a family who buys a house in an exclusive NJ neighborhood in the suburbs, only to find that everyone who lives there are aliens from another planet who have taken on human forms as a result of being stuck here thanks to broken communication equipment. Thanks to their limited understanding of human culture, all the Zabronvians have adopted the names of professional athletes - Larry Bird, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Reggie Jackson, Dick Butkus, etc.
Jami Gertz is married to your typical NJ mook, and their kids become friends with the alien neighbors' children. It's very Third Rock from the Sun-like in its execution, but all together enjoyable.
We're almost through the first season, and the alien wife, Jackie Joyner-Kersee is the breakout star.

I remember seeing a few episodes when it originally aired, but I didn't keep up with it. Now that I'm always scrounging for more sitcoms to watch, I'll probably revisit.
Toks Olagundoye is the actress you referenced. I've seen her be funny in other stuff too.

Yeah, both she and Simon Templeton (Larry Bird the alien father) have made some serious waves in videogame & animation VO. That's much more impressive to me.

Finished the 2nd and final season last night. I'm seriously bummed that we're done with the show now.
