I mean, it likely wouldn't matter who they cast because Depp fans drive this franchise's success. The elf and skinny girl did a decent enough job, but Johnny IS the franchise.
Maybe a smart move as they can sacrifice this actress' box office reputation, eat this expensive bomb and blame all the ists and phobes. Then they can do a real reboot in 2027 or so.

It's not the new Jack Sparrow. It's the new lead in a Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and I don't care.
There were black Pirates. The most notable was probably Black Caesar -- Blackbeards second in command.
There were women Pirates. Though very very few.
Pirate crew often had freed slaves in their ranks and it could make for an interesting story as long as they don't try to out Jack Johnny.

Also read it was gonna be a spinoff with younger pirates searching for buried treasure. This might be a PotC aimed at children.

We were going to wait until it hit Netflix (it was already supposed to) so more people could watch. I've been checking to see why it didn't drop but couldn't find anything.
