The Rocketeer 2 - sequel gets the Disney wokeness treatment

Cant spell "intersectional diversity inclusiveness" without Disney

A short synopsis for the planned Rocketeer sequel has also been provided. This time, the story is said to focus on a "young African-American female pilot who tries to stop an evil rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology during a pivotal moment in the Cold War." The movie is also intended to be a direct sequel to the original movie rather than a complete reimagining. It's not clear if Squire's new draft of the screenplay will alter some of these elements, though the project is also reportedly still looking to cast a young African-American female for the lead and a Russian woman to play the villain.

Writing a story where the lead is an African American female is not being woke.
Now if the story is full of SJW wokeness platitudes, then we can call it woke.
We must wait before we pass judgement.

Wow, I'm surprised that they're actually going to make the commies the bad guys.

This is nothing new for Disney. If you've ever watched their series Once upon a Time that aired for several seasons on ABC, you'll know that Disney has been changing the gender, race, and/or sexual orientation of several of their iconic characters for a while now. The upcoming live action version of The Little Mermaid will feature a black Ariel.
I'm cool with the changes if they add something to the story, but to do it just to be "woke" is stupid.

This has been on Disney Junior since last year.
Billy Campbell is the voice of the new Rocketeer's dad.

Dumb. On two accounts.
1. The Rocketeeer is a perfect film that doesn’t require a sequel.
2. Being set during the Cold War era, the nuke era, makes Jet Pack tech wholly irrelevant unless it’s Iron Man lite tier.

Come on now, female POC pilots were everywhere during the Cold War era.

B. We didn't have jet packs during the Cold War era (and flying superheroes have flourished in every era since their inception).

nice, the tried and true "realism" argument

Man if you don’t like Doc McStuffins I don’t know if you can be helped.

This sequel is about 20 years too late. I have no interest in seeing this, even if it is a direct sequel, because the trio of Bill Campbell, Jennifer Connelly, and Alan Arkin are what made the film. Add in an incredibly over-the-top, but memorable, performance by Timothy Dalton as the main antagonist and you've got something that cannot possibly be replicated.
Also...it taking place in the Cold War makes absolutely no sense and makes the need for a hero such as the Rocketeer kind of non-existent.

Enh I'll hold off judgment until I see a trailer. It could be perfectly fine. It could suck diseased moose wang.

How is it woke if they just cast a black woman and its a sequel?
I could see if it was a reboot set fighting nazis.
I guess falcon is woke cause he is cap america now
My problem is how is Jetpack technology so transformative in the cold war, if they had it in the 30s/40s??

Because they didn't have it in the 30's and 40's. Cliff and Peevy had it.

I think the point is that if it’s just a jet pack, why the rush for the tech in the cold war era?
Dalton wanted battalions of flying Nazis because the tech outclassed the aviation tech at the time.
Would it during the Cold War without Iron Man type of upgrades? Unless you’re saying they’d be the new paratroopers which meh.
