The Tick (2017) - Amazon Prime

I checked this out over the weekend, it was a quick and fun watch that (thankfully) isn't the ultra-cheese-fest that was the ~2000 live-action version. Don't get me wrong, there's some cheese there (it's The Tick, after all) but it's far more restrained this time around.
I have to admit to going into it with a bit of personal bias from my first exposure to it being the early 90's cartoon (which I still find amusing). The actor playing Arthur wasn't the chubby yet dedicated accountant I was expecting which kind of bummed me a bit, but as I watched more and they actually developed the character I found I really liked this version of Arthur and the actor playing him was a great visual fit as well.
The Tick himself could use a little more projection in some of his delivery (and maybe a little more bass in his voice) and the costume needs to be more muscular (what's up with the costume change, btw? I think they might actually create a back story for him in this series, if it goes on long enough). The lines were great and the portrayal of his sheer power was dead on (the scene at the warehouse made me lol). The bombasticness of The Tick though, is definitely on point.
Dot is easy on the eyes and looks to bring an interesting angle to the series.
The story and effects looked surprisingly solid with PLENTY to build off of for future storylines.
Amazon has put up only 6 episodes thus far, ending with a "cliffhanger!"
Here's hoping for more episodes!

Has promise, but this 6 episode run was more like a pilot than a season. I hope Amazon didn't overpay.

I watched a couple of trailers - as a fan of the original animated series AND the 2000 Warburton-led (perfect casting, IMO) live action effort, I'm not optimistic. I'm going to give the first couple a try, but I'm not crazy about the casting at all.

I wasn't at first, but they grow on you. It's only 6 30-minute episodes, give it a full chance.

Yeah, by the end the casting is the least of the negatives about the show. My biggest problem is that it's a silly/parody show but it wasn't very funny. On top of not enough funny, half of the jokes are high brow stuff based on science that the average viewer is going to miss even though they spell it out.
Powerless >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Tick as far as Super Hero parody shows are concerned.

Were you familiar with the franchise before watching it? The Tick has always been a parody. This version is actually less of a parody than the previous versions (unless they do something like bring back Batmanuelle/Die Fledermaus).

Yes, although I think you read what I wrote in a manner I hadn't intended. My problem isn't that The Tick itself is a parody, it's that Amazon's version of The Tick wasn't a good parody as there wasn't nearly enough humor.
The crazy thing is that the original creator of The Tick, Ben Edlund was involved. Although his wiki page only credits him with writing the Pilot for this go round. Maybe that was the problem.

Understood
It looks like maybe they were aiming for a parody that was more story driven with less over-the-top cheese. At times (especially with the night-light) it felt almost Wilfred-esque.
