He was a psychopath. He didn't need to kill most of the people he killed.

also prop joe gave up the re-up to omar. marlo got connected with the greek so joe wasn't needed to middle man anymore. why would he keep joe around to cause more problems with re-ups and in his war with omar?

Prop Joe had some of the best lines….

“You don’t think I’m gonna send any of my people up against Brother? shite, that n***er got more bodies on him than a Chinese cemetery.”

“I got motherfrickin' nephews and in-laws fricking all my shite up all the time and it ain't like I can pop a cap in their arse and not hear about it Thanksgivin' time. For real, I'm livin' life with some burdensome n****s”

“Fool, if it wasn't for Sergei here you and you cuz would both be cadaverous motherfrickers“

How else was he gonna get the connection with the Greeks? Which he was then able to sell to the rest of the Co Op for $10 million when he got out of jail.

Yeah it was a good business move, Marlo would be the only person in the group to have a line with the Greeks. That hit wasn’t personal or emotional like all his other moves with taking someone out, he was very calm in that scene with Joe.

What upset me is that this is one of the few instances in The Wire where the facts didn't make sense. The Greeks were fools to do business with Marlo. Prop Joe was a gold mine for them and, besides the Omar robbery, had a very stable organization. The Greeks didn't give a damn about street rep. Hell they didn't want it. But that was the very thing Marlo craved above all. They should've tipped Joe off about it and let him decide what to do.

I was so happy when Slim Charles killed cheese bitch arse in the last episode. Someone had to do it. He did not deserve to sit at that table after giving up Joe.

Confirmed early on when he needlessly killed the convenience store security guard

Omar to one side holding a spade, and maybe Marlo to the other with a shovel. And just at this moment, I managed to crawl out my own damn grave. No way do I crawl back in.

He had to kill Joe to get the Greek connect, which was the most valuable thing in the Baltimore drug game at the time (lesson from Season 2).

String's crew was giving him too many 40-degree days.
