Thunderbolts is easily one of the best MCU movies in a long time (and maybe one of my new personal faves).
— Emily Murray, Total Film

Thunderbolts isn’t just the best Marvel movie in a while – it’s flat-out top-tier Marvel.
— Tessa Smith, Mama’s Geeky

I haven’t felt this giddy leaving an MCU movie in YEARS!… [It’s] top shelf Marvel!

It looks like it will be good, regardless of what the barking seals are saying for the moment.

This

I saw a preview for it before Warfare. It's crazy how people haven't grown tired of the dogshit "humor" thats in every single Marvel movie. It's painful

The initial reviews are always positive. They were positive for Snow White. Only the paid shills write the first reviews.

Don’t get me wrong it could be a good movie.

Early reviews are ALWAYS positive.

They are paid, either with access or physical dollars, to put a positive spin on everything.

They did it with Snow White.

Reviews are only marginally worthwhile AFTER the movie is released.

This seems disingenuous considering the last Marvel movie that came out got nearly no positive reviews.

Captain america had plenty of positive first reactions. The Marvels was all positivity. I'm looking forward ro seeing Thunderbolts, but these first reactions are pure nonsense. It's been like that for quite a while now.

Sadly, it's like being the best Razorback football team in a while.

I don't think that's true at all for Cap, those reviews were considerably more negative from the get go. A few below:

quote:

Rotten Tomatoes: 50% (234 Reviews)
Critics Consensus: Anthony Mackie capably takes up Cap's mantle and shield, but Brave New World is too routine and overstuffed with uninteresting easter eggs to feel like a worthy standalone adventure for this new Avengers leader.

quote:

Deadline:
Director Julius Onah (Luce) and a boatload of writers provide plenty of oppotunity for Mackie to show his strengths although Evans’ Steve Rogers is a tough act to follow. That fact is even alluded to at one point, but watching Mackie taking Sam Wilson into the big leagues is a game effort with room to grow.

quote:

Hollywood Reporter (40):
At 118 minutes, Captain America: Brave New World thankfully runs on the short side for a Marvel movie, but under the uninspired direction of Julius Onah (Luce, The Cloverfield Paradox) it feels much longer. Even the CGI special effects prove underwhelming, and sometimes worse than that. It is a kick, though, to recognize Ford’s facial features in the Red Hulk, even if the character is only slightly more visually convincing than his de-aged Indiana Jones in that franchise’s final installment.

quote:

TheWrap (30):
“Captain America: Brave New World” was directed by Julius Onah (“Luce”), but like lots of Marvel movies lately, it plays like it was made by a focus group. Everything looks clean, so clean it looks completely fake, and every time a daring choice could be made, the movie backs away from the daring implications. This is a film where the President of the United States literally turns red and tries to publicly murder a Black man, and yet according to “Brave New World,” the real problem is that we weren’t sympathetic enough to the dangerously corrupt rage monster. This film’s steadfast refusal to engage with its own ideas, either by artistic design or corporate mandate, reeks of timidity.

quote:

Indiewire (C-)
It’s fitting enough that “Brave New World” is a film about (and malformed by) the pressures of restoring a diminished brand. It’s even more fitting that it’s also a film about the futility of trying to embody an ideal that the world has outgrown. Sam Wilson might find a way to step out of Steve Rogers’ shadow, but there’s still no indication that the MCU ever will.

quote:

IGN (5/10):
Captain America: Brave New World feels neither brave, nor all that new, falling short of strong performances from Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Carl Lumbly.

quote:

Rollingstone (4/10):
While Brave New World is nowhere near as bad as the various MCU low points of the past few years, this attempt at both reestablishing the iconic character and resetting the board is still weak tea. The end credits’ teaser — you knew there would be one — feels purposefully generic and vague, as if the powers that be became gun-shy in regards to committing to a storyline that might once again be forced to pivot. Something’s coming, we’re told. Please let it be a renewal of faith in this endlessly serialized experiment.

I would agree with the Marvels, though I think that one is a bit different. Nobody had expectations for that movie, but it was surprisingly ok. Not good or great in any stretch of the imagination, but it was better than people thought it would be. But expectations were so low, looking back that's not much of a surprise either.

I'll just say this, I follow individual content creators on Tiktok, YouTube, etc and I generally jive with their feelings more than the companies above. The vast majority of those guys and girls have been very meh to just plain not liking recent Marvel movies like the two you mentioned below. Thunderbolts isn't that though, these are people who geniunely seemed to really like the movie. To me, that's meaningful to how good the movie is.

It looks like a fun movie; admittedly, I'm not sure if that will convince me to see it in theaters but still.

This movie looks like it could be good. I'm optimistic. Can't wait to hear what actual fans think of it before I decide if it's worth watching in theater.

From the trailers it looks like it will be fun. The problem with the MCU movies/TV shows (IMO) is that nothing seems to be connecting together. In the first 3 Phases there was a connection with everything. There was a purpose going on that the audience can see. There just seems to be random bad movies and shows that are just produced with no function.

Also there does not seem to be any characters that the audience cares for. Outside of Spider-Man and possibly Bucky, all the characters seem to be forgettable.
