Last man Standing (ABC) version is a much better show than Home Improvement and had a better cast.
Mike Baxter is funnier than Tim Taylor
Vanessa Baxter is more attractive and a better wife/mother than Jill Taylor
The 3 Baxter girls are better than the 3 Taylor boys. The original middle Baxter girl is a smoke show.
Even Ed Alzate id funnier than Wilson
Although the FOX version sucked.

The weird thing about LMS (which I enjoy much more than Home Improvement) is that they made some odd substitutions that they never addressed:
-Ed's and Mike's offices switched locations at Outdoor Man after S2
-Changed actresses for Kristen after S1, The showrunner explanation was that they wanted an actress who looked younger to reflect having a kid in HS, but OG Kristen totally looked like she got knocked up at 16, whereas Kristen 2.0 looked like in no universe would she have been Mike & Vanessa's kid.
-Changed Ryan actors from Nick Jonas to convicted rapist Danny Masterson's brother
-Changed Carol Larabee actress in the back half of the Fox revival
-Most famously - Changed Mandys between ABC & Fox runs. Molly Ephraim (OG Mandy) indicated that she wasn't invited back
-Changed Boyd actors in Fox revival to being an early teen, then rarely had the new actor featured in subsequent episodes.

I was actually ok with this one. Masterson does a great job in his role. Plus, I think you only see Nick Jonas in one episode. Maybe 2. Old Kristen definitely fit the part better and new Mandy sucked.

i looked this up and i read that Molly was under the impression that the show was cancelled by ABC and took on other roles. once Fox picked it up, her schedule didn't allow her to come back.

I miss old Kristen and Mandy.

I agree with most things in this thread, except for this:
HI is MUCH better to me, even in reruns today, for whatever reason. I did really like Last Man Standing though, at least until they switched networks and the show changed a ton.
But it's a solid show and pretty funny in its own right. And I don't even care if a show's politics match mine or not, as long as it's funny. But it was nice to have a show that did more align with me than most others. And on top of that, it was pretty funny anyway.
And yes, OG Kristen was BEYOND better than the chick they replaced her with. That bugged me throughout the entire show. And OG Mandy was obviously better than the tall blonde airhead they replaced her with, and not just because Molly Ephraim was fun to look at. But at least that was only for a season or two.
I'll still throw either show on if I see it in syndication though. And it's a testament to Tim Allen IMO.

Last Man Standing is a great show but I love me some Home Improvement. Still watch it anytime I see it on. Always had a thing for Jill Taylor too.

Full disclosure - I never watched it until the news of the cancellation at ABC, then we binged the whole thing. I knew the bit about the daughter who gets knocked up in HS, and I wasn't interested.
My very first episodes were the one where Eve puts up the flagpole in the front yard, and where Mike is invited to give the commencement address at Mandy's HS graduation. I was hooked.

It was great to have a show where the dad was still a respectable Patriarch. He was not beyond ridicule at times but more often than not he was the voice of reason and was respected. It had a nice little balance in that regard.

And that the mom was the one cracking the corny jokes and was 100% out of touch. That said... Vanessa Baxter could get it. Especially in the pirate wench costume.

Pie Rack is the GOAT, however.

I find that Molly played Mandy as a confident bimbo. Like, she didn't know that she wasn't smart, and at times, came off smart because of this. That made me more drawn to her character. And yes, smokeshow.
The new Mandy was just a blonde bimbo with nothing to offer. I didn't care what she did or how she felt. That's just me.

Interestingly enough, both Mandys are played by actresses names Molly.
Mandy 2.0 is Molly McCook and her dad is on Bold and the Beautiful as the patriarch, IIRC.

I saw somewhere that Allen and Kat Dennings are doing a new show together.

Tool time made the diy guy cool. Plus his cars were always cool when they showed them. Also was the first show to do computer transitional wipes for most scene changes. Using the Amiga Video Toaster.

Not to mention Pam Anderson.
I'm not a fan of the show, but credit where it's due.
