Went down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled across this interview.

Listening to Frank tell the stories that ended up in the movie is really awesome. Also, Carson’s reaction to the prostitute story was great
Really worth a watch if you are a fan of the movie

I was a big fan of his book. The movie is okay, but his real life was crazier. His time in the French prison seemed brutal, and it wasn’t even that long.

I loved that the people cheered his crimes as Carson lists them off like scholarly achievements. Good stuff.

He is a liar who made up much of what he claims to have done. He is definitely a criminal but moreso a liar. People buy it because they love fiction, but he passed bad checks. There isn't much else to verify. He never worked as a lawyer or doctor as he claims.

Yeah, while I love the movie, Abagnale lied, or at the very least, exaggerated and embellished his life story.
Great movie, but it’s basically Spielberg’s version of Confessions of A Dangerous Mind.

I love how he is 74 and still travels around claiming to work for the FBI.
Nobody at the FBI has ever heard of this guy beyond his claims. FBI policy is to never speak about employee issues publicly so his claims go unchallenged. But everytime they contact some field personnel he claims to been connected to, nobody has heard of him.
Its garbage in, garbage out. His entire life is a complete con. Even at 74 years.

It's really impressive that a conman conned people into believing he was a more illustrious conman.

I think it was HH Holmes (who was a serial killer from the 19th century) who did something analogous.
After it became clear he was going to be convicted of multiple murders he changed tactics - and went from denying all guilt to confessing to an implausible number of murders and grotesque atrocities.

If he’s not an employee and was never an employee, why can’t they speak about him?
