What kind of douche move was that?
I mean, frick giving them to Goose's ol' lady or his son. Maverick decides that the better thing to do with them is to just chunk those bastards into the ocean.

Maverick had to let go of his past to move on, plain and simple. In a movie, the best way to symbolize someone letting go of someone else is to show them throwing something of shared value in the ocean or off a cliff.

Almost as bad as that bitch Rose throwing the diamond in the ocean after she wasted everyone's time and money with her boring, whorish story. I guess in the movies throwing something in the ocean is just a cue that the selfish lead is almost out of lines.
