Unpopular Opinion: The Hateful Eight is One of Tarantino's Best Flicks

Always thought the hate this movie gets on here was odd so I did a rewatch of the extended edition not long ago and I think if anything I liked it better.
Fantastic cast and acting per the usual for QT but the dialogue was a standout. I could have watched a 4 hour movie of just Walton Goggins, Kurt Russell, Sam Jackson, and Jennifer Jason Leigh in a carriage ride to the inn.
Going just off IMDb's ratings, his movies would rank like this...
1. Pulp Fiction, 8.9
2. Django unchained, 8.5
3. Inglorious Bastards, 8.4
4. Reservoir Dogs, 8.3
5. Kill Bill Vol. 1, 8.2
6. Kill Bill Vol. 2. 8.0
7. The Hateful Eight, 7.8 (the extended edition is 8.5)
8. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 7.6
9. Jackie Brown, 7.5
10. Deathproof, 7.0
Granted, I haven't seen the theatrical version of H8, only the extended, so that's what I'm basing this off of. There's obviously a difference in quality given the difference in rating.
After a rewatch, the only QT films I for sure have over it are the Kill Bill's and Pulp Fiction. Probably Inglorious Bastards. After that it gets hard to say but after a rewatch I think I'd have it over, Deathproof, OUATIH, Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs, and Django.
That's coming from someone who loves all of his movies outside of Deathproof.

Great movie and definitely one of his best.

Na, not unpopular, it's a great film. Just sort of overlooked.

See I feel like there are two types of Tarantino. Tarantino making movies: Jackie Brown, IB, Reservoir Dogs, OUATIH, Django... and Tarantino playing with movies: everything else.
H8 squarely fits where Tarantino is trying to do something different, and of those films it's actually the most interesting and best. PF being right around it, but I think has the most interesting setup and characters.
For me it's in the Top 4 with Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Bastards, Jackie Brown.

I'd watch the extended edition if you do a rewatch. It's broken up into four 50 minute "episodes", each with an intro and credits so not really 50 minutes of viewing. Just googled it and it looks like it's about 20 minutes of actual screen time/dialogue added. A particular scene in the 4th episode that gives the POV of the gang when they get to the inn, which is a good scene. That is probably the biggest addition.

I saw the 70mm Roadshow version, with Overture and Intermission, at the theater. It was quite good.

Maybe that's a better way of saying it. Just never really talked about when people talk about his best.

I actually like that. Makes sense. KB definitely falls in the playing with movies category and I think I like them best because they are the most fun. Fun isn't really the word you use to describe QT movies but man those were a fun ride to me. I get why they are sometimes down on people's list but I love em. Every single character that is introduced it great. Same for H8.

The only I’d put next to DProof isH8ful. That movie sucked, Tarantino or not.

Unpopular Opinion is I don't care for any of his movies that he made after the two Kill Bills. The last one, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was actually torture for me to sit through.

It’s his best shot movie but I have it at the bottom personally. Too drawn out, and just an inferior version of Reservoir Dogs. There’s so much that could have been cut out (at least 45 minutes) and that is in the cut version! The nuts and bolts of the movie could have been an hour and 45 minutes max.
Also, the dialogue was annoying in this movie. I cannot believe I’m saying that about a Tarantino movie but the dialogue in Hateful 8 sounded like a parody of a Tarantino written dialogue. The only other movie of his that I can say that about is Death Proof (which I also have at the bottom of his films). To me it seemed like he toned it down for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
1. Pulp Fiction
2. Inglorious Basterds
3. Reservoir Dogs
4. Kill Bill (it’s one movie)
5. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
6. Django Unchained
7. Jackie Brown
8. Death Proof
9. The Hateful Eight

It's better than any super hero movie for me. So I liked it

Decent enough movie, but besides Death Proof it's his worst one IMO.

All this thread did was make me want to fire up Inglorious Basterds this weekend.

I like H8 but his best is Jackie Brown.
My list would look much different, as Django wouldn't be in my top 5.
