Vanessa Kirby confirms F4 explores gender politics

Actress Vanessa Kirby confirmed that Marvel Studios’ upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps explores gender politics with her Sue Storm character.
Kirby spoke with Entertainment Weekly saying, “If you played an exact '60s Sue today, everyone would think she was a bit of a doormat. So figuring out how to capture the essence of what she represented to each generation, where the gender politics were different, and embody that today, was one of the greatest joys of this."
The idea that Sue Storm was a doormat in the early Fantastic Four comics is ridiculous. In the second issue of Fantastic Four, she turns invisible and breaks herself free from a federal detainment facility.

On top of Kirby’s comments, Entertainment Weekly’s Christian Holub shared that Kirby’s Storm is the head of the Future Foundation and she “has helped achieve global demilitarization and peace.”
Shakman elaborated, “If [Reed] is the most scientifically intelligent person, then she is the most emotionally intelligent person on the planet. Between the two of them, they're building an idealistic society."
Furthermore, Kirby shared that she ensured her depiction of Sue Storm was not “the stereotype of a goody, sweet mother.”
She explained, “One of the things I love most from Sue's history is when she becomes Malice, and all her dark stuff comes out. I was obsessed with that chapter of her life. So I wanted to make sure that there were tones of Malice in there with her, that she wasn't just the stereotype of a goody, sweet mother."
“I've always been really interested in the mess of femininity, and how can you be both? How can you be all the things? Not just the tough, invincible, powerful woman, but also a mother who gives birth, which is itself a superhero act,” she continued.

frick yeah! Finally starting the conversation that long overdue. There’s a lot to unpack here and I’m excited to listen and learn from a strong woman!

This movie will flop. First because no one really cares about F4, they never had a huge following. Now you have Disney being Disney with preaching about wokeism. Recipe for a flop. Doesn’t help that the one dude, Pascal, got into a spat with JK Rowling about transgenders

Disney is completely broken and it isn’t fixable.

Well that fricks off a great idea for her to have a compelling character arc in a 2nd movie and have her Malice persona be the villain. If she's already Malice-y in the first movie then there's far too little contrast for the audience to notice in a follow-up.

Both my grandmothers, mothers during the 60s…no one would call them a doormat and escape unharmed
These people and their shite world views. SMH.

Destroying history is a major pillar in their design.

It absolutely is and they always do it or try to.

They can not help themselves

I've always thought Fantastic Four was pretty lame to begin with. Tossing some modern feminism into the mix isn't helping to change my mind.

This Sue Storm belongs in Canada where the govt must start paying for people to try to become anime/hentai futanaris.

It’s like Disney likes losing money.
It’s getting to the point that I don’t think their goal is to make money. It’s to destroy anything that could be considered “classic American culture” in cinema and television

It’s not, Disney doesn’t pay for these movies with profit, they’re funded by political entities including around 30 members of the WEF. They’re not an entertainment studio they’re a propaganda machine.

Attention Disney, Hollywood actors and actresses:
Shut the hell up. Every instinct you have about what to say and how to market a movie is wrong. Just shut up and and let the film speak for itself. Damn I’m sick of this bs.

Think they'll have 'invisible' popcorn buckets for this one?
