Emotion is a strong selling force.

Meh. He's no Roger Deakins.

Awesome ad.
Hate the front end of that car... but all electrics seem to do that... why can't they just put the normal XC90 grill on it... not that flat one with no slots or whatever. Other than that, love the car. Not the totally electric part... but still... why can't they ever make an electric car look... normal.
But yeah, that's a great ad.

Even Christopher Nolan’s cinematographer’s commercials has elements of time in it.
What's the name of the daughter? Is there a significance to why the name was chosen? (My audio is bad and can't make it out)

I knew it
Can't hear what they're saying
Has to be some connection to Nolan

By everyone's response here, it's obviously an effective commercial.
But I found it a bit confusing. I could tell from the begining that they were going to tout the traditional Volvo safety angle.
1. But they aren't advertising "we have brakes!" They are showing the "collision avoidance automatic brake assist" feature, but it's not obvious. They should have shown a flash of the dashboard warning light or something to show that it's an active safety feature being activated.
2. They are visually advertising that it's safer for you when other people own Volvos, although the collision avoidance feature makes it safer for you occupying a Volvo if it avoids crashing into another car or hard object. I think the messaging is slightly off.
I'm obviously wrong since everyone is responding appropriately emotionally to the commercial.

electric cars have no need for air to pass through the engine. Grills are only there to cool the engine off, so electric removes the need to have one.
hence why every Tesla has no grill.
i digress. great commercial.

Volvos have been the safety car for a very long time. this was pulling on what if you can still drive your car but remove the element of human error for the safety of others.
effective.

Looks like a Cramblin & Duvet ad to me!

But they look stupid without a front grill. At least put the grill grates/louvers there, even if they are non functional and blocked off. Like the Tesla Model S. It has the black "T" in the front that looks enough like a grill to make the car look normal. Do that, and then they won't look stupid. The Cyber Truck, however, that's a whole 'nother level of ugliness and stupidity.
But yes, we digress.

Volvo makes a dang good car. Love mine. It's the recharge, so both gas and electric if I choose. Couple little quirks, but overall it's a great car.

I hope they teach their daughter to look both ways before crossing the street.

Better story told in that 4 minutes than some 200+ million dollar movies or shows.
