In the end, how happy is that one guy, since the Mariner didn’t want to stay on Dryland?

Dennis Hopper was the only redeeming thing about this movie

At the ballon bungee jump scene, he grabs the girl and the jets skis all collide. What was their plan? If they got to the girl first, they still would have all collided.
Stupid movie.
Stupid movie.

i watch waterworld at least once a year and up until this moment that had never occurred to me. Bravo
although him being a mutant and all probably would have put a damper on the whole procreation thing. A sequel could straighten all this out…

One of my guilty pleasure movies. I don’t care what anyone says or how bad it is, I really like watching that movie. Don’t judge me.

It likely was a body double but a young teenage me watched the scene of Jeanne Triplehorn disrobing and showing her tight arse in a pg-13 movie many times when we rented it on VHS.

The arse scene even though it was mid at best.

I grew up in the 80s hating people like Roger Ebert, Gene Siskel, Gene Shallit, and all the other mainstream movie reviewers.
This movie was a perfect example of a film that they trashed way before it came out and a lot of people didn’t go see it because they believed these idiotic ‘opinion makers’ horrible reviews.
I remember grudgingly going to see it just to see how bad it would be and it was amazed at how good it was. I learned a valuable lesson then that professional movie reviewers are worthless and should be ignored.

Same here
As a kid I loved it... as an adult I still love it
Cool premise... distopian water world... pirates... fish dude... survival of the fittest... it's kinda cool

quote:there is one truly stupid scene that transcends the premise of a planet completely underwater…when the mariner decides while under constant and imminent threat of the smokers finding them, and knowing for 100% sure that they were in hot pursuit, to take tripplehorn for an underwater safari to show her where the dirt came from. Just inane. Tell her, you didn’t need to show her and you didn’t need to abandon your lookout or stop running.
the whole planet is flooded and this is the part you think is stupid?
cost him a damn good boat

Ditto.
Waterworld was the post-apocalyptic world land version of Road Warrior . Both gave you the good, bad and ugly along the way, but what you wanted in the end.
I really miss those kinds of epic non-CGI flicks.

Wish there was more in the movie after they find land.

Me too. I agree, they left a lot of gas in the tank and could have easily gone in so many different compelling directions with a sequel.
Already been discussed how the early bad reviews of, "Expensive Turkey" really hurt this flick. The producers and Costner probably gave up on thoughts of any sequel early on, ruining it for the rest of us.

Movies do not have to always be super complex for me. Just entertain me sometimes. And thats what that movie does. Has a little bit of everything and like I said, I just dont get tired of it.
