What happened to Clive Owen?

He was a big deal A-lister and then vanished. I don't think I've seen him since the Sin City movies.
I always thought he would be a great Bond.
One of the great hairy men left. (RIP Mr. Reynolds.)

The man is literally a bear, as was Reynolds. I was googling and the bear skin rug pic popped up. (No homo)

I think he's still locked inside that bank wall.

In male gay culture, a bear is often a larger, hairier man who projects an image of rugged masculinity. Bears are one of many LGBT communities with events, codes, and a culture-specific identity.

So what are you saying?

He starred in all three seasons of the Knick up until like this year.
You should go watch that.

Ah, it's on Cinemax. No wonder I hadn't heard of it. I cut all premium channels except for HBO, last year.
Will check out!

He was?
I did think he would be the next Bond after Brosnan

Never thought he made it fully to A list. More of a B+ guy.
I am surprised he hasn't been in more solid roles.

I think he was poised to be - I'm sort of with the OP (not on the hairy male gay bear crap) that I'm not sure when he turned off the road.
Kind of like a British version of Josh Hartnett - except we know in Hartnett's case, he just couldn't act all that well.
Owen is better than solid and more than enough acting chops to lead a big screen film franchise like Bond.
Maybe he didn't want the pressure and prefers the stuff he's been doing?

He does a lot of straight to dvd stuff now. I don't think he was ever that big of a star.

Guy was a brutal force in Closer.

I think Owens and Elba have kind of the same thing going.
They thrive in any environment, they are usually the best things about otherwise crap movies they may end up in. They both seem to enjoy dipping into sci fi and serious stuff along with goofy romps here and there.
Elba just happened to be better at picking his goofy and sci fi vehicles.
Owens probably got pegged out and plateaued because even though I enjoy the 289th King Arthur movie, at some point you reach saturation and somebody says you can't carry a a big budget blockbuster attempt.
