What was your opinion of the Johnny Cakes storyline in The Sopranos

I didnt like it the first watch through but in a rewatch I actually thought the storyline was funny even if it wasnt trying to be. One of the best lines of the season if not series is "I Love You Johnny Cakes"
Still want to know why Jim would fall for a fat Italian, I am guessing there just wasnt a lot of gay options for him in that New Hampshire town

I didn’t particularly like the story line but I think it clearly illustrated that mob life does not allow you to be free and how quickly you are outcast.
The show demonstrated this no way out, trapped theme several times through the seasons.

That Eugene character who killed himself because he couldn't move to Florida was a good example

One of my favorite scenes in the whole series is when Vito has to work a manual labor handyman job for like 3 hours and can’t make it.

"Think of those sandwiches Jim made. When you eat that last bite, this fricking day is halfway through"

Always wondered why if he needed money that bad, he didn’t pawn that 2k dollar watch.

Almost lunchtime. Look at the sun.

To me, that story line involved work. None of those guys wanted to or even knew how to work. As in putting in 8 hours somewhere and clocking out. Vito wanted to make his money the old fashioned way, by stealing it. None of those guys could work normal jobs, they wanted to steal it and spend their time playing cards and shooting the shite at Satriales or the strip club.

Little Goth Vito dropping a deuce in the school shower is the cherry on top of the Johnny Cakes storyline.

It's got some of the funniest scenes. The scene were they bring Finn in for questioning is hilarious. Also, when Vito tells Tony he can get him a Dr note that he's not gay anymore

My favorite scene is when Meadow's bf has to explain to the crew that Vito was doing the sucking lol

I felt it went on forever during the original run, but on re watch it was only about 2 episodes.
ETA: Johnny Cakes, not the whole storyline.

It was classic subversion of the mob genre, which is what Chase was aiming for the entire show. It, along with the Eugene arc at the end, showed how you were owned by the family forever and there was no escape no matter how much you gave.

I still remember literally yelling "whoaaa!" Sopranos style when Vito popped into frame dancing in the leather cop outfit that first time
