What year does wire take place?

Yes I googled it, yes I've seen all the seasons thrice over. But showing the girlfriend the first episode and can't honestly answer her. In first episode they say it's the turn of the millennium and we are still using a type writer but something seems off about them being in year 2000.

Obviously Kikuchiyo, so is 2000 the correct year? I know the FBI guy talks about counter terrorism and has fiber optics lenses.

The first season the FBI guy says things have changed since the towers fell so it's probably around 2003

My Dad's company had him on a pager up til probably around 2007 so not all that strange. If I remember that the gang guys were using them and it was a way around getting nabbed by the PO-Leece.

And that's what made me think it was mid to late nineties since I haven't seen it in awhile. I remember them racking their brains and thinking pagers were so antiquated.

Are you serious? It was set whenever it aired originally. 2003ish. If you have watched it 3 times you should have picked up on the theme of police being short funded and having to use old equipment. I work for a hospital and we still use pagers to this day so don't use those as a basis for your timeline.
