Which one do you prefer: The Longest Yard (1974) or the remake with Adam Sandler?

original because 1) it's not a remake 2) it doesn't star the Waterboy 3) Burt Reynolds was bad-arse in that movie

As far as remakes go, this one is pretty good. I like both movies, I’ll give the edge to the remake only because the original was made 14 years before I was born and I want to give the remake credit.

Is the remake the one where the guy getting burned alive in his cell just doesn't work? Talk about jarring.

I think I vote original.

I remember watching 74 version at the theater with my dad "Don't tell your mother", when I was 12. Dad laughed so hard when Nitschke got drilled in the nuts by Burt that I thought he was going to have a heart attack. Eddie Albert played an awesome bad guy. "His-tor-ee!"

I thought the remake was just as good if not better than the original. Chris rock was funny as hell with his one-liners and his delivery was spot on

Is this a serious question? The remake is one fo the shittiest movies I saw that year.

Obviously the remake isn’t perfect, but come on you can’t at least give them credit for trying to honor the original?

Beyond Terry Crews doing his schtick...it's unwatchable. Original all day, twice on Sunday.

That's way better than the remake as well.

The original for a variety of reasons but one of the most important being that Burt Reynolds was believable as an ex-pro QB. Sandler was not.

They took a dump on the original.

I happened upon that on cable without knowing what it was and quickly thought, "Jesus, they stole the entire plot of The Longest Yard". Then I saw the name and realized it was an homage.

And the original with Jimmy "Caretaker" Hampton getting killed in Reynolds' place was a kick in the stomach.

Original. I don't plan on ever watching Sandler's remake.

The original. Never really got into Sandler as an actor because calling him that is a HUGE stretch of the imagination.
