My wife and I have been working through season 10 in an effort to catch up to the rest of the show, and we just got to the finale of the alien monks storyline. It may be recency bias, but at this very moment it is hard for me to think of a worse companion than Bill. This chick literally gave the world over to an alien force. Just really hard to grasp the Doctor accepting this level of incompetence after the perfection that was Clara. I haven't seen any of the original series, so I can't really speak to any companions from those seasons.

Would love to hear other peoples' opinions. Who is the worst Doctor's companion?

The last I saw they were doing a nonsensical "companion by multigenerational multiethnic committee" thing. That gets my vote.

I no longer care what they do, I'm out.

Anyone not named Jenna Coleman.

She was fantastic, no doubt, but I also enjoyed Rose, Donna, River Song, and the Ponds even had their moments. I just can't figure out what is redeemable about Bill.

Well that sounds ridiculous. We're going to watch through everything currently on HBO Max, and I'm really hoping they haven't totally destroyed the series during this latest run.

ETA: We just got to the conclusion of the alien monk shows, and...wow. I do not believe Bill was able to overpower the mind of the monks when the Doctor was not able to do this. Ridiculous.

They haven't, but it is much different than the previous 5 seasons.

Not sure how the companions could be worse than this Mary Sue-ing that just went on with Bill...and then they have a conversation about humans will never "learn from their mistakes" as if Bill wasn't the one who gave the world over to alien invaders.

ETA: I honestly thought Nardole was going to be lame, but he's actually been pretty great. Overshadows Bill at every turn.

Peri Brown (Nicola Bryant) was not the worst companion, but was companion to the worst Doctor.

She had a great set of jugs, too.

There are better potential NSFW pics out there.

Wiki says she was the 5th and 6th Doctors' companion. Which one are you meaning? I'm not really familiar with the Doctors from the original series.

ETA: She is clearly quite talented.

6th Doctors

Colin Baker, the sixth Doctor, is by and large considered the worst doctor of the first seven...maybe all-time but I don't know much about Whitaker other than the show went pretty woke. I kind of lost interest halfway through Capaldi's run.

We did too, but we're running out of things to watch due to working from home for over a year now, so we decided to finish out as much of it as we can this week.

Was just shocked at how utterly insufferable Bill is. Some of the lines are also eye-rollingly woke lately. Maybe this is the beginning of the push toward irrelevance for Doctor Who. I see the current series isn't getting great ratings or user reviews. We'll see for ourselves I guess but it already isn't heading in a great direction and I haven't even started the 13th Doctor's run.

I can’t speak on the old Who’s companions, but this is how I would rank the new ones (best to worst)

Clara
Amy
Martha
Captain Jack
Rose
Donna
Rory
Mickey
Bill

I’m not really counting River since she’s his wife.

By the end of Capaldi’s run, the show had gotten stale.

I like your list, but I'd put Rose right up there with Clara.

What about Nardole? Don't consider him a companion either? I think he's really solid.

They were running some of that season last week on the Pluto channel. Was not familiar with her, but she had some nice assets. Back when the BBC could still have some fun.

And oh yeah, Bil was easily the most boring and uninteresting companion in a long time, at least until Chib took over. Was also a fairly boring season overall with the Doctor giving grumpy speeches more than solving problems.

Same here. I really liked Tennant and Smith as the Doctor. The piss-poor stories they gave Capaldi is what lost me. Plus he never quite sold me on the Doctor. I think his previous roles in Torchwood and the Pompeii episode of Doctor Who took away from him being unique.

"Bill" was a gawd-awful companion.

My wife really liked Clara and I was okay with her. I'm a team Rose and Team Amy/Rory. I think they had a good chemistry with the Doctors.

Sadly, they've about killed Doctor Who. While I don't follow the show, I did catch enough of Jodie Whittaker and the SJW agenda that I am out. If the show doesn't get cancelled maybe one day they will get new showrunners that will sort of of this out and put a good product back on TV.

I stopped watching when Capaldi took over but what little I have seen of the latest crop of Companions they are beyond god awful. The last few seasons of Dr. Who should be taught in film making classes as "how to destroy a popular franchise" with Kathleen Kennedy as the special guest lecturer.

Guess I forgot about him. And come to think of it I don’t remember him that much but it has been a while since I’ve seen the Calpaldi doctor who episodes.

In Baker’s defense, pretty sure most of the issue was the way the Doctor was written during his time there.

Tennant and Smith were just incredible. Capaldi grew on me as his story went along. Felt like he had a strong ending. Whittaker is a great actress, but honestly felt like the writing hasn't been great. They had a great two episode "James Bond" theme special with The Master, but some of the more recent seasons episodes are less than great.

*Spoiler: the introduction of The Doctor when neither Doctor recognizes each other just feels like they're trying to roll out a Multiverse or something similar.
