Who was the best Sopranos villain?

Livia Soprano
Junior Soprano (season 1)
Richie Aprilie
Ralph Cifaretto
Phil Leotardo
So many classic villains. There are much more but I feel these were the main players. I would say it’s either Livia or Phil. Livia is constantly in Tony’s psyche even long after she is dead. Tony has no looked more afraid/flustered than the scene where he trips on the steps and drops his gun while Livia is laughing at him. Phil because it is the first time in the series that the imminent threat to Tony and his family was from someone that was higher up on the food chain than himself. And the guy did 20 frickin years in the can. Ate grilled cheese off the radiator.

All pale in comparison to the coach who decided Tone wasn’t good enough for Varsity ball

Richie. Never backed down. Tony feared him and only whacked him because he hit Janice.

Janice killed him after he hit her. Tony just had the body disposed of.

Tony was going to kill Richie anyway.

With pine cones all around.

There is one episode though that Tony is trying to collect money from Phil. Gets into a car chase, Phil’s car gets wrecked, and Tony grabs Phil and threatens him for the money as if Phil is some random low level street guy. I know Tony was entitled to the money after Carmine’s ruling, but in that one episode Phil was not treated with any respect at all.

He would’ve killed Richie a lot sooner without his relationship to Janice I think as well. He came out of prison and spit in the direction of Tony multiple times
I never got the feeling he took Richie very seriously tho. Richie had the ambition, but thought he simply deserved the top spot and just whined about his lot instead of making moves to get what he felt he deserved. Always felt like he was playing checkers to Tony’s chess

I'd have to go with Richie, but Ralph was a close second with all the stupid crap he did.
Killing Pie O' My
Killing the stripper right outside the "Bing" who said she was pregnant by him.
All the BS for the family over his making jokes about Johnny Sacks wife's weight.
Just so much stupid crap.

That was in Season 5. Once Johnny Sack goes to prison and Phil becomes the boss of the Lupertazzi family, for the rest of the series Tony and the DiMeo family are at the mercy of Phil and his goons.

Not so sure about that, He doesn't consider it until Junior tells him Richie is making a move.

Wouldn't Tony be the best villain? He is such a good villain that we all end up loving his evil arse.

Probably AJ. If he didn't have to worry about that little bastard every episode he would've been a much better boss. Even at the end he had to destroy AJs room and drag him out of the house to go into hiding because AJ was laying there squalling. Little shite

Phil had it coming. He definitely should've shown more respect to Tony in the bar that night and not told him to go get his shine box.

I wonder why Tony didn't whack him as soon as he got out and told Tony "What's mine isn't yours to give." And then the thing with Beansie.

Paulie was the villain all along.

Carmella. Stealing from the bird feeder, equating love with money, fantasizing over Furio....
But no Phil, although I wouldn't say he was higher up in the food chain when he first got out of jail. Tony owned him at that sit-down, then beat him up once he was ducking him on the money he owed.
