Just finished watching it (for the 1000th time) and I always wondered who is the main character, Butch or Vincent?
Travolta was nominated for "Best Actor", not "Best Actor in Supporting Role" in 1995.
Vincent has more screen time, but Butch had the biggest (or most important) character role/story.

I'd have to go with Vincent

The thesis of the film revolves around him.

They would never intersect if not for Marcellus so I'm gonna say him.

Vincent is in the Diner when Honey Bunny goes ballastic in the intro, starts the story with his own stories about the Metric system, is there retrieving the Macguffin as the kid chows on a tasty burger, takes Mia Wallace out on a date, goes to Lance's to giver her the shot, talks back to the Wolf, calls Butch punchy before Butch throws the fight, takes a dump at Butches and is there at the end scene.
The only character he really has no interaction with is the GIMP and Ms. Blueberry pancakes.

If I had to pick one, I'd say Vincent just because he has way more screen time, although Butch is the more pivotal to the story playing out the way it does.
But why should there be only one?
Similar to Heat, both Butch and Vincent are fully flushed out characters that are on opposite sides in the story that are both protagonists.
They can and should both be considered main characters imo.
I'd even argue Jules is a third main character given his screen time and significant virtual soliloquy in the closing scene.
That scene actually makes him the most dynamic and well rounded character, assuming he actually follows through with what he is asserting he will do going forward, while the other two are actually pretty static.
