Who’s your Favorite Actor? Why?

Christian Bale
I loved Empire of the Sun when I was younger.
Didn’t realize that it came out in 1987 (Christmas Day)
But I watched it over and over. Definitely a Core Memory
He has consistently put out amazing work. Not sure when I decided or knew he was my favorite. Maybe after American Psycho. 2000
Some of my favorite-
Ford v Ferrari
The Big Short
The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises
American Hustle
The Fighter
The Prestige
The Machinist
Newsies
American Pyscho

Leonardo.
Gangs of New York
Catch Me if You Can
The Departed
Blood Diamond
Shutter Island
Inception
Django
The Great Gatsby
The Wolf of Wall Street
The Revenant
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Just to name a few
I'd probably put Daniel Day Lewis as the best actor on the planet, but Leonardo is close and just has more in his catalog.

Mel Gibson's been my favorite for years going back to Mad Max. He's played so many iconic characters, and he pretty much nails every role.
For some reason, this scene has always stuck with me. Just incredible acting.

Bale is a good choice. He was great in "Ford vs. Ferrari" playing Ken Miles and his movie where he played Dicky Eklund in "The Fighter" opposite Mark Wahlberg playing Mickey Ward was excellent.
Then his role in "Public Enemy" playing Melvin Purvis opposite Johnny Depp as John Dillinger.
The guy melts into his roles and becomes the character.
Another top choice for me is Gary Oldman. He too transforms himself into his character and has a great resume as an actor playing in some top films.
When an actor can make you hate him while on screen is a true sign of his talent, and Oldman has made me hate the character he's played more than once.

When I saw the thread, this is what I came on here to post.

This may just turn into a Nolan-verse circle jerk, but I want to throw in Cillian Murphy. Bale and Oldman are hard to beat given the full resumes and getting some larger roles...but Cillian has captivated me every time he's been on the screen. To steal a line from someone else in this thread, he disappears into his roles.

Bruce Willis.
Growing up, I thought he was the coolest. I had a bunch of his movies on VHS. Plus we share a first name.

You mean Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?
I really wanted to like that movie. I just didn't, and still don't really know why. I just don't. Found it boring.

For this run right here it was Tom Hanks
The Money Pit
Big
The Burbs
Turner & Hooch
League of their Own
Sleepless in Seattle
Forrest Gump
Apollo 13
Toy Story
That Thing You Do
Saving Private Ryan
You’ve Got Mail
Toy Story 2
The Green Mile
Cast Away
Road to Perdition
Catch Me If You Can
Then he tailed off doing movies I wasn’t interested in besides Captain Phillips, Sully, Bridge of Spies, Greyhound
Now? Idk really, I don’t watch as much new films as I used to. Bale is definitely up there, as are Denzel, Mel and Pitt. Loved Crowe during his magical 00s run but he’s fallen off

Jack Nicholson is my short answer. or Christian Bale for contemporary film
But I watched Dog Day Afternoon when I was 13 or so, John Cazale is the first actor I saw who made me pause. Always vulnerable and honest. That moment when he suggest Wyoming as a country they could go to...
Could benefit from the short career which never allowed him to jump the shark like other actors late in their careers but he was taken way too soon
Godfather 1/2
The Conversation
Dog Day Afternoon
The Deer Hunter

All time, or current?
All-time is John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Humphrey Bogart, Charlton Heston.
Current is Daniel Day-Lewis and Tom Hardy

Mine would be Bale. To add to the thread, I would pick Tom Hardy.

I’ll add my 2nd favorite after Bale
James McAvoy

Probably Bale but honorable mention Guy Pearce. He has a lot of off the radar films that are pretty good too outside of these listed below. Iron Man 3 was fricking terrible though.
Ravenous
The Proposition
Memento
