He had the chance when Blue Duck got off the horse.

Could've saved lives

Had a chance. Would have been close who got who.

Gus wasn't sure who he was until after he got off the horse.

This is probably my favorite book. I really wish they could have portrayed the fight between the bull and bear on film.

That would've been amazing.

It's the best I've read so far.

The special effects weren't that great in the show. I wonder if they tried and it just didn't turn out good.

Would have been cool to add it though.

He tells Woodrow back at camp that "it would have been touch and go." As to who would have won.

"I like my water wet."

That, and the cold water had shriveled his pod. Wasn't his usual confident self.

He also knew that if Blue Duck somehow put one in him, there was a good chance Lorie would have been taken right then and there. I believe he held tight as a means of ensuring her survival. Lot of good it did long term, but that's the decision he had to make. Gus couldn't be too perfect, his character needed a semblance of a flaw, so LM wrote that scene as such, character development and what not.

Given the circumstances, I don't see how anyone can fault the decision.

Yep. Spoon was a rake and a rambler... and didn't know when a piece of prime time snapper was camping under the stars with him.

Poor Lorie Darlin'.

Let's see. Gus was soaking wet including his gun hand in a stream in his underwear. Meanwhile Blue Duck is dry as a bone with a rifle in his hand as I recall.
