why does it always rain at funerals in movies?

just finished watching "John Wick" and sorry if already discussed but this "raining at the funeral" has to be one of the most tired, overused tropes in the history of cinema.
I wonder how many movies have used this. It's a long list i'm sure. Does anyone know if there's been a list compiled of such movies.

It mainly happens in macho action films like Lethal Weapon and The Rock (although, those two scenes are action post-funeral visits to the grave and not the actual funerals themselves).
It conveys the emotional vulnerability of your macho action lead without showing them crying.

I've only ever endured a slight drizzle at any funerals I've attended in South Louisiana. It's usually as hot as balls and you're sweating through your dress clothes.

Is this an actual question?
Or rhetorical?
You dont know why this could possibly be? lol

I feel like I’ve seen many more funerals in movies without rain than with.

Seriously though, I had to be a pallbearer for a 9th grade buddy who lived directly across the street from me. My brother was a pallbearer for a 10th grade buddy that live two houses away from my friend that died. My brother died the same year. All three had cerebral hemorrhages. My brother, and the guy he carried, had an auto and a motorcycle accident. The other guy had not been involved in an accident, but had been having severe headaches. They each got an "In memoriam" page in the next year's yearbook.
Thankfully, I didn't have to be a pallbearer for anyone else until I was in my 40's.

Yeah but it works which is why they use it. Unless you're Gene Kelly, having it rain is the easiest way to connote sadness and despair.
Funerals in movies just don't look somber when it's bright and sunny...see Wedding Crashers.
There's no levity at a funeral when its raining.

Why is it always sunny during beach movies?

That's rough, brother. I'm sorry to hear that.
Those caskets are heavy as hell. My 98-year-old grandmother passed recenty; my brother and I were among those who carried her. She was a relatively small woman; we joked she must've gone on a pizza and cheeseburgers bender on her last day on Earth.
We came terribly close to taking out a neighboring headstone with her casket, which would've made for some epic dark comedy.

Nephew's funeral last Summer. A lot of veterans on hand. The VFW sent some old gentlemen, the heat sent one to his knees at the burial.

People die everyday. Everyday, in Louisiana, there is almost a 50 percent chance of rain. Do the math.
