WTF Happened to Jonny Lee Miller?

If you had asked me who would be a star in 1998, I would have said Jonny Lee Miller. He was coming off Hackers and Trainspotting. He had the look. He had the chops. What happened?
Wait, he married Angelina Jolie. That explains it. She kills careers.
ETA: The should just let him be Bond. He does an excellent Connery.

He was the star of a very successful CBS show for almost all of the 2010s.

Oh wow, go from being the leading man in two hit movies to a TV show a decade later. Interesting career choice.

Also had a role in The Crown for a season as PM John Major.

Yeah he has his frick you network money from Elementary and pops up in all sort of random roles.
IIRC, he was a world class a-hole and his ego was bigger than his talent, which is why he was set back after his initial success.

That checks. I just rewatched Hackers last night and I'm always amazed at actors that had everything in front of them and just fell off.

Are you sure about that? That movie absolutely bombed.
The film was released September 15, 1995. It opened in 1,812 theaters and earned $3.2 million in its opening weekend, finishing in 4th place.[27] The film ended its run with a domestic box office gross of $7.5 million.

Brad Pitt’s career is dead?
Billy Bob career is dead?

Brad could outlast her but Billy Bob has been pretty much straight to DVD since their marriage/

Dude has the worst kind of balding pattern. The Fivehead kind. The kind that looks like he is wearing a toupee, but it accidentally slipped backwards to almost the middle of the top of his head.
Plus, his face kept growing long/oblong. He'll never be a A-list leading-man movie-star bc of it (like other balding-now-bald leading men like say a Bruce Willis who not only receded handsomely, but actually had a head shape that seamlessly pulls off bald when shaved). It's more like Tion Medon's oblong grey head in Star Wars 3 RotS when he warned Kenobi they were being held hostage by Grievous who had a droid army of thousands.

I was a big Hackers fan as a kid and wanted him to be big. Looking at his filmography this morning, he tried to hop on big budget pictures that were all shite, then had given up by the mid-00s and was trying to get a major show started. Finally hit with Elementary and is now doing smaller roles in better quality stuff (the Crown, the Covenant, etc.)

Hackers was a bomb and Trainspotting was a popular indie movie that was financially irrelevant, and wasn't seen by many people until it was found much later on DVD.
He has worked steadily. And yeah, taking the most financially stable and lucrative gig you can with a CBS show is a pretty smart move for an actor whose "next big thing" status never worked out.

You want this guy to be bond? He is a good actor, but James Bond?

I'm always curious what some actors do after and it seems they do some TV or disappear.

WTF Happened to Jonny Lee Miller?
Speaking of Hackers, the guy I thought was going to be huge, Matthew Lillard
SLC Punk, Hackers, The Curve, and Scream?
Hell of a resume to then fade into voice acting/cameo obscurity.

I think he did that Sherlock Holmes show for 11 years which probably has him set for life
