It's interesting to note that as synonymous with the 1990s as grunge music, Lollapalooza, and Nirvana were, Cobain and co. never played at the festival.

Saw both in NOLA. It was the one and only time I dropped acid. Ministry singing, So What, where Al pushes the skull towards the crowd almost sent me into nervous breakdown.

Nirvana was scheduled to headline but officially pulled out on April 4, 1994, amid rumors that the band was on the verge of breaking up. Frontman Kurt Cobain was found dead in Seattle, Washington four days later on April 8, 1994.

Went in '96. Metallica, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, the Ramones, Rancid, The Screaming Trees, Sponge and Soul Coughing. You could work your way up to the front through the crowd. It was awesome.

Lollapalooza 96 in New Orleans at the UNO grounds was the greatest festival show I ever saw.

I was at the first one in Dallas. Still have my ticket stub. I believe it says 8/21/91.
I remember Henry Rollins Band, Butthole Surfers, Violent Femmes, Body Count, janes Addiction was the headliner. Ice Tea came out during Janes’ set. I remember it was hot as shite. I guess I would’ve been 18 years old at the time.
It really wasn’t a grunge scene at the first one. More neo- punk

Saw the first version twice …. DC and Atlanta

NIN was also on the lineup … as was Lush?

In Atlanta, Perry and Ice T did a duet of “don’t call me Whitey, don’t call me N***a”

Went to UNO for 92 and 93. 92 I remember house of pain and cypress hill on the second stage, and then Eddie Vedder climbing the scaffolding on the main stage. Ministry was epic.
In 93 the back to back combo of rage and tool was still the best concert experience I've ever had.

i was right there with you. remember all teh fricking fires the crowd set in the grass?

remember the 10s of thousands of water bottles everyone was throwing into the air. that was a crazy visual.

remember the giant scarecrow on stage behind perry farrel?

posted my ticket stub from 91 and 92 a few times on here. you can barely see the writing on the 91 ticket.

yes I remember. I bet they set a dozen or more fires. Never really seen that before or since. I remember security didn't even put them out.

I saw the first three in Orlando at Central Florida Fairgrounds. Such a GREAT time each year.

It got moved in ‘94 to Deltona, which was closer to my home in Jax. Couple of buddies and I were gonna go but a massive storm came through the night before and wreaked so much havoc on the grounds it had to be cancelled. Sucked.
