Probably 90% of my cassette collection came from them. Never did it with cds.

I remember my senior year of high school, I came home on the Friday before Easter break and I had 7 or 8 CDs in the mail. I could not wait to just listen to them over the break. Damn, to be a teenager with no responsibilities.

One of the CDs was No More Tears by Ozzy and anytime I listen to it now, I always remember that Easter break.

I was in music clubs from the mid 80s up until they ceased to exist (about 2009 or so I guess. Maybe a little before that.)
Got a huge portion of my collection there.
It was great for filling in entire band catalogs.
I also got turned on to some great bands when I would forget to send my card back in...

I think half my CD's were from columbia and BMG. I lived in 7 different places with 7 different names through college.

It's amazing how they could never track Norm Peterson down.

Oh yeah and the Cassettes were 12 for 1 penny. Did that a few times too.

I have no idea how those places stayed in business as long as they did with all the people ripping them off.

Actually we learned later that it only cost them $1 to make a cd. So after you bought at the regular price for so many months, they were still making a killing, especially with most folks paying $20/cd.

All they had to do was embrace file-sharing/ streaming early on and they could have continued to have control and make bank

Same here. 1986 in junior h.s. Imagine a 14 y.o. kid who just immigrated to this country coming from a socialist regime getting 8 or 10 cassettes all at once in the mail. I just could not believe it, too good to be true!
Then I had the "responsibility" of every month mailing postcard to decline the selection of the month, or they would send it to you and bill you for $19.99. Good times.

I remember looking through the list and marking the ones I wanted but I never pull the trigger and ordered

I always thought seems too good to be true what’s the catch.

I did, too. I think the last time was in 1983 for me. If I’m not mistaken, it was .01 before it went to $1. I vaguely remember having to tape a penny to the order form before I sent it in.

Disney still does this with their $1 movie club.

Actually checked columbia house and they sell dvds now haha.

They should upgrade to bluray.
