I was always puzzled by the attention Rick got and the lack of Ben got. I guess it was mainly due to the Rick songs after The Cars really hit the mainstream and his song writing? Anyway, I think Ben is the clear winner here as far as leads on singles, but I am guessing there will be other opinions. So, you have:

Benjamin:
Let's Go
Just What I needed
It's All I Can Do
Bye Bye Love
Candy O
Moving in Stereo
Drive

Rick:
Best Friend's Girlfriend
Magic
You Might Think
Shake it Up
Since You're Gone
Good Times Roll
Hello Again

Ocasek was the nominal front man for the band, as well as the main lyricist. Even Ocasek (touchingly, during the interview with a dying Orr) admitted that he would pick the songs that needed a stronger singing voice for Orr to sing.

Like a boss...

ETA: If you're a fan, that interview is on youtube starting with part 1 here.

Warning: if you're a fan of The Cars, and particularly Orr, this is a hard interview to watch. Orr was down to about 130 pounds, at most.

Orr's 3rd verse in Bye Bye Love is one of my favorite Cars vocals. He sounds like he's 10 takes in and Baker has pissed him off.

Remembering the interview, they HATED that album cover. Drummer David Robinson would go on to do most of the Cars covers, and had done an admittedly bizarre one for $80 for the eponymous debut. The record company rejected it, much to their (ultimately financial) chagrin.

They also don't like it because it has nothing to do with them or their music.

Probably the most important album to me considering timing in my life and what it did to open my eyes. The strange thing is though, I had to backtrack to find it. I learned of The Cars through later albums only to find out this was by far my favorite.

Ben was definitely the superior vocalist.

I've wondered why he wasn't made the front man and marketed more. Looks, voice.. he had the whole package. The Cars were quirky like that though.

They referred to their first album as a greatest hits album.

Elliot Easton used to contribute a lot on a guitar forum I frequent. Great guy.

Not sure if underrated, but definitely under appreciated.

Orr - moving in stereo and bye bye love are my two favorite songs out of their catalog.

I just love the Cars. Don't care who's singing.

Alx, yeah, that was it. It became the inner sleeve. The band considers that the unofficial cover.

Banging a SI Swimsuit cover model tends to help one get attention.
