Concert sitting/standing etiquette

We went to see Elton John last night. We were sitting pretty far down in the uppers and there were two slightly overweight maybe 25 year old girls a couple of rows in front of us. The concert started and everyone stood up when he took the stage of course but everyone settled in and sat down pretty quick. The two girls in front of us were the kind of concert goers who film the entire thing and act like every major hit is their favorite song. I gave them a pretty long leash but once 5 or so songs passed and Elton John started playing some slow songs I had enough considering they were the only people in the arena not on the floor standing up.
I stood beside one of them in the aisle and asked if they could sit down. She looked at me confused and said no. I said "be courteous of the people behind you. They can't see." She said "that's not my problem." After that I'm pretty heated and started pointing around the arena yelling over the music "you're the only people in the arena standing. Have some self-awareness." She said they're not sitting down and not wanting to take it any farther went back to my seat.
I understand people will stand at a concert but that's if it's a fast paced rock show. Something like Elton John that's slow paced and most of the audience is 65+ then you should be sitting. The main rule to follow is if everyone is standing you stand and if everyone is sitting you sit.
Maybe I'm just getting old but I needed to vent out a long post and see what others thought because I'm still agitated about it. Mainly what I'm pissed about is it was these two dumbass girls who are the kind of fans of a band that think songs like Bennie and the Jets and Crocodile Rock are the best songs and have no idea what Amoreena and Burn Down the Mission are blocking my view the whole time. At least I got some cred from the old folks around us.

Where's Jeff Gillooly when you need him??
How was the show otherwise? Was Elton good post-COVID?

I asked them pretty nicely. What got me going was how flippant they were and the disrespect for the people behind them. My wife said I got pretty animated.
It was pretty good. I’ve seen him a bunch. His voice isn’t what it used to be anyways but I could tell his throat was bothering him early on.

This is exactly why I like what Jack White has done at his shows and makes everyone put their phone in a yonder pouch. It amazing not seeing any phones out at the shows and people listening and engaged. Wish every show used them.

Stand on the floor, sit in the stands unless things are getting crazy hype

There are no rules... gotta suck it up!

I stand most shows no matter where my seats are located, i like to dance and boogie. Ill sit down on occasion for slow/boring songs though.
If i wanted to sit and listen to music, i can do that from my couch.

Don’t stand in the aisle, grandpa. That’s a violation of the fire code.

This is from the arena website.
Some people farther down the row ended up leaving so we all scooted down and were able to sit but that didn't help anyone on the row in front of us.

Standing & Cheering
Although we love for our guests to cheer, we must maintain some basic protocols. As some guests like to stand and cheer, others prefer to sit and cheer. Guests who sit are entitled to enjoy the event from their seats without undue obstruction. Many of our guests have mobility impairments and may not be able to stand as others do. Guests are advised that while cheering for your favorite team, band or entertainer, please be cognizant and courteous of those around you.

Sent see Dream Theatre in Biloxi MS two years ago at the Hard Rock. Didn't sit for 3 hours. Nor did anyone else. I guess it depends on the crown and venue. I think the artist perform better for a crowd is their into it. As a musician I can say this is true.

Worst part about it is they were wearing masks
Chubby, frumpy, wearing masks. Pretty much the trifecta to set me off. I would have let it slide if they were hot.

I remember when ryan adams played BR and left side of the theatre was standing the whole show and the right side was sitting. basically if you wanted to sit/stand you had to pick a side.

reminds me of Joan Jett at Tipitina's. Was in the middle of the floor about 4-5 people from the stage. Everyone was jumping around and rocking out.
This one guy who looked to be in his 40s kept wanting fight everyone who bumped into him.
Bump! "stop pushing me!" "here hold my glasses".

This. If I'm in the space I paid for, get over it. I don't scream and sing over the performer, but I'm standing if I want to

If the floor is sold out and i end up with seats somewhere else, i shouldnt be able to enjoy myself and stand up and dance because a bunch of people want to sit on their hands?
Sorry, not happening.

2019 following the Stones on tour, I always tried to get seats up high in the upper bowl and told all around me that I would not be sitting...now in the Fall for the Tampa show I got tickets on the floor so we all stood up.
