"What inspired Toby Keith to write 'Don't Let the Old Man In'?
The song was inspired by a conversation Toby Keith had with Clint Eastwood in May 2017. The two shared a golf cart at Eastwood’s golf tournament in California, and the Oscar-winning director mentioned he was leaving the next day for three-month shoot to make a movie called The Mule. "How do you do it, man?" Keith asked.
"I just don’t let the old man in,” Eastwood responded. From there, Keith got to writing.
After hearing the song, Eastwood wound up putting it in The Mule."

I could not watch that video right after he passed. We are huge fans of him and have been for over 25 years.
I think he and his wife knew the end was coming when they agreed that he would sing that night. I dont know how he held it together.
That cancer just destroyed a big strong man. fricking still sucks
RIP brother.

I never cared for Keith's music, but that is a really good song.

I cannot find it but I read an article or saw an interview where he said he had a cold or sore throat when he recorded what he thought would be a demo but Clint liked it so much he told Toby he wanted to use that version as is.

I think if you see his expression at the very end, it took all he had to keep it together.
I remember the way he looked years ago....I big old redneck lookin' guy and then you see him here.
Cancer fricking sucks.

It shouldn't just be seniors.
Start thinking this way in your 30s.
Don't get lazy on the couch or in the recliner. Meet the old man outside and find some adventure, whatever it is, because that old man is yourself, if you let it happen.
Chase dreams and do things, no matter how silly other people think it is.
Wake up every day full of dreams and ideas, you'll get disappointed a lot, it's OK as long as you keep trying.
