Wooden tip sound better
Nylon tip more durable.
Wooden tip performance/recording, nylon tip practice.

I liked nylon tip when I was younger because they added that little bit of attack to each note on drumheads and cymbals.
I switched to wood tip when I started playing actual gigs because it led to a warmer sticking sound (on the ride in particular) which sound guys preferred.
Plus, I got tired of the nylon tips coming off right at the worst possible moment in a given song and either hitting me or flying across the stage and into the the crowd.

Vic Firth wooden is all I will play an acoustic kit with when given the choice.
On my Ekit they say to only use nylon so I do on that. Roland aint cheap, so I'll acquiesce
