This is a pretty shitty list in my opinion. But perhaps will spawn a good discussion.

Developing a definitive “best of all time” list requires a densely thorough thought process, one which must take into account both subjective and objective angles when constructing a list of this type. As it pertains to rock bands, there are several gray areas as far as who or what is even considered to be “rock.” In the case of this list, the bands chosen and considered are from major sub-genres of rock, be it classic rock, blues-rock, hard-rock, heavy metal, alt-rock or punk.
Greatest Rock Bands
To keep matters streamlined the bands included in this list are all bands, not individual artists or solo rock acts (i.e. Elton John, Neil Diamond, etc.). With that in mind the main criteria for this list is focused on rock groups whose musical work has remained timeless over the years and is predominantly still relevant within the modern music industry.

IMO no one is ever gonna be happy with these list.
I love a lot of them on the list and I like the rest. Of course everyone is gonna think a band is missing.
I think the list maker’s favorite band is Rage.

I have seen far, far worse lists.

I am a big Rage fan, and I don't think they belong in the top 100.
Them and Radiohead are the biggest WTFs on the list.

They both inspired massive shifts in genres. I think Radiohead is the most undeservedly pretentious band in the history of rock music, but I kind of get the ranking.

That’s exactly what I meant. The list maker just couldn’t exclude his favorite band.

And saying a band is not in the top 30 all time is not a dis of that band. That's a high-level list to be on.
I like Rage and Radiohead a lot, but not top 30 all time or anywhere near that.
I also don't think ZZ Top is a top 30 band all-time and I love them.

I’m surprised someone hasn’t dissed U2 and Oasis. I’m perfectly ok with it. But if Oasis gonna make that list I do think there are other more worthy.

All these lists are going to be so subjective. That is not a bad one at all minus the Rage Against the Machine.

I think is the definitive list, in no order. You can pull up 100 lists and 90 percent will have these in the top 20 or so. The rest then comes down to personal preference.
Led Zeppelin
Beatles
Queen
Pink Floyd
Jimi Hendrix Experience
Rolling Stones
Van Halen
Eagles
Metallica
AC/DC
Black Sabbath
The Who

You forgot Fleetwood Mac

I would put Aerosmith ahead of Heart, Journey

Probably Journey and Aerosmith as well. Those would all likely be on almost everyone's list.
Also no band in the top 30 in the OP is from 2000 or sooner.
I personally can't think of any newer bands that deserve to be on the list, but maybe I have nostalgia bias.

Me neither actually
I was thinking about this the other day. Being born in 70’s was the perfect time. We appreciate and love the amazing bands from the 70’s and we were at the perfect age to experience (concerts) the amazing music of the 80’s and early 90’s. The early 2000’s was pretty good too.

I was born in the late 60s.
I think the 70s and the 90s were the greatest music decades. The 2000s had some great music and songs, but few bands with staying power to become legendary.
The best 1980s music was mostly carry-over from the 70s.

That list is basically chalk. Not a lot of thought went into it.

Shouldn’t a “best all-time” list of anything be mostly chalk?
Posted on 11/1/24 at 4:39 pm to Jake88
Well they trolled us a little bit with Rage and Oasis.

It's slightly off kilter to include The Beatles on a "rock" list. Much of the reception of them as well as the scholarship has focused on the fact that they were "pop" - at the very least "rock n roll". But "rock" is a genre born in the late 60s as basically an offshoot of The Beatles.
So it's like, either they should be #1 - or maybe they shouldn't be on the list?
