How to donate a piano?

Does anyone know where or how to donate a piano? It was passed down from my mother-in-law, but we don’t use it. Would love to see it go somewhere that it would be played.

call a high school that has a music department

ditto what cgrand said ... Review this list of area schools (assuming you live in Ascension Parish), contact the local principal or head of the music department and offer to donate it. My suggestion, If you have kids, donate it to their school. Perhaps they could take music class and learn on their grandmothers piano.

If you are going to donate it to any entity, and if the piano sat untuned, unused and/or unkept for a spell ... you may consider getting a pro tuner to determine it's tunable and playable first. To ensure you don't unintentionally hand them a money pit that they feel the have to invest money in out of principle to reciprocate your kind gesture.
My son tunes and restores pianos for a living in Denver and one of his accounts is a charitable donation hub for unused pianos. Much of what they receive is better suited as parts donors versus functional instruments, because even simple functional restorations can often exceed the pianos' street values.

If you don't have any luck with the schools, you may want to check with these folks.

Nobody wants them. My wife had one that was in excellent condition and no one would take it off our hands. She ended up giving it away to a lady who lost hers in the 2016 flood.

FB Marketplace may be an option.

Thank y’all for the links. It ultimately went to a family friend’s home.
