Went down the rabbit hole last night regarding Vinnie Vincent. I don't know why. I was never a KISS fan and only had a passing interest in Vinnie Vincent after releasing "Love Kills" and no interest after. Something about the late lives of old rockers interests me, I guess. Anyway, this was a pretty interesting article that also just happened to make Vincent seem like a real schyster. I also never realized that his first wife was murdered and his second wife died of alcoholism.

quote:

SMYRNA, TENNESSEE, IS not a likely place to find a guitar god, or anyone in particular, which meant it was just about perfect for Vinnie Vincent. For a while anyway. The town of 42,000 people is roughly 25 miles southeast of Nashville, and full of non-descript McMansions and farmhouses kept watch over by lazily grazing goats and cows. There are cozy residential subdivisions, too, where children’s bikes are strewn across the well-manicured front lawns of one-story brick ranch houses.

One property near the outskirts of town, though, sticks out amongst all the idyllic sameness. Behind a forbidding eight-foot-tall picket fence and a padlocked gate stand two houses. Paint cans, a television set and stuffed black garbage bags litter the driveways. This is where guitarist Vinnie Vincent — who gave life back into Kiss in the early Eighties, when the bandmembers had removed their makeup but seemed musically ready for embalming, and then became a hair-metal solo star in his own right — has lived in seclusion for the last 15 years. Or, more accurately, had lived. It’s hard to know where Vincent is these days.

I hung out on a hair metal message board 15 or so years ago and Vinnie Vincent being a con man was a recurring theme. There were some folks on there who had put down money for his box set and never got it.

There is also speculation that he already has or is in the process of transitioning into being a woman.

So the glam metal look wasn't just a passing fad for him then?

Yeah, that's interesting in a sad way.
Hate to see someone who had everything going for them and had to wreck it.

That's what I was thinking. And maybe fretshack bought Vinnie's guitar that he never actually played.

Vinnie's glitter flake gold Rhoads is one of my grail guitars, not so much because it was his but more because it was one of the first five. I'd bet it was one of the ones that was under construction for Randy at the time of his death. I'll ask Grover next time I spend time with him.

Limited run "First Five" reissue ...

The original ...

Oversprayed hot pink for the "Lick It Up" video and tour. Ugh.

I recently saw a photo of him and it appears that he has transitioned into an ugly chick.
