Jazz Fest Saturday w/ Pics

Got into town around 3:30 on Friday. Settled in at my buddy's, ate some food, went to the Columns for some pre-show drinks, then went to Earth Wind and Power at The Republic. So damn funky. Non-stop grooves. Was impressed with everyone in the band. B. David Whitworth from Earth Wind and Fire joined in to sing the last few songs. Helluva time.
Popped into the gospel tent first thing when we got into the fest on Saturday around 2:30 like we usually do. Those choirs always blow me away.
Then swung by the Jazz and Heritage stage to catch some of Matachindé of Colombia. Very cool.
After that we caught the last half of Jon Cleary's set. First time seeing Jon Cleary with his band. So funky and awesome. Great group of musicians.
Stopped back by the J and H stage to see a little bit of Kinfolk Brass Band, and then into the Rhythmpourium for some RiverBenders on the way to Nickel Creek. Wasn't familiar with the RiverBenders, didn't know that Jake Eckert had another band, but they sounded great.
Hadn't seen Nickel Creek in a long time, and they didn't disappoint. Chris Thile is such a talent. Crowd was very into it.
Heading to Neil Young, we stopped yet again by the J and H stage for Bejuco which was perhaps the most fun set of the day. They put on a great show, and I loved their style. Total dance party.
First time seeing Neil Young, and he is still rocking hard at 78. Pure rock n' roll. He played Ohio solo and that was pretty special. Powderfinger stole the show for me though, frickin' love that song. Made me a little emotional.
Jrad at the Fillmore was incredible, particularly the second set. Impeccable jamming, and they do the songs justice. Crowd was electric. Easily got a spot on the rail stage right. They are probably my favorite jam band to see at this point. Called it a night after that.
We hit Jean Laffite National Preserve yesterday before heading back to Pcola. Its nice getting out into some nature after partying, music, and big crowds, so we usually stop into the swamp to cap a Nola weekend. Saw a ton of blue racers, a ribbon snake, 4 or 5 gators, a Mississippi kite, a bittern, a few yellow-crowned night herons, some marsh rabbits, a barred owl, and some roaming crawfish.
Another amazing Jazz Fest weekend. Can't be beat.
One of my favorite things about JF is that you can bring in cameras, so I brought along my Nikon Coolpix P950. Got some pretty solid shots from the day.

well done on the pix and the entertainment choices. Jazz fest is the best time of year anywhere
We had to miss most of it but we did get down there Friday for a meal at R&Os and a JRAD show at the Fillmore. The best part of jazz fest crowds is that everyone is all about the music
